Any Feedback on Lunati "Voodoo" Hyd Cams???
« on: May 21, 2006 - 11:13:26 AM »
I'm currently searching for a Hyd Cam for my 71 340 Cuda (4-speed @ 355gears) to replace my Comp Cam's Magnum (1800-5500 rpm range) which has.470 lift and need to replace due to a bad lobe. Have any of you used the Lunati "Voodoo" Cams or know of anyone who has?? Looking for some feedback either good or more important I guess...BAD.....They have a couple that look pretty good on paper for a possible replacement??

Thanks  "Tim"

Just curious as to ideas on how this new cam will sound as to idle based on duration numbers etc compaired to my old one. Will I notice a difference?? Also how about vacuum when compaired to each other.....as I've got power brakes??

Old Cam: Competition Cams Hyd "Magnum Series:
Adv Duration 270 / 270 In and Ex.
Duration @.050  224 / 224 In and Ex.
Gross Valve Lift .469 / .469 In and Ex
LSA 110   Intake Centre 106

New Cam I'm thinking about Lunati Hyd "VooDoo Series"
Adv Duration 268 In  276 Ex
Duration @ .050 226 In  234 Ex
Gross Valve Lift .494 In   .513 Ex
LSA / ICL 110 / 106

Thanks Again   "Tim"

I don't think that there will be too much a difference with perfromance/sound with the new cam.

You will have more slobber with the longer exhaust duration, but not any more lope really. I doubt it had more than a slight skip before anyway.

 :clueless: Hmmmmm...........
IMO...A "skip", is a mild grind, really not a loud idle tone, but a little bit of eight cycle action going on.
A lope, is kinda a gallop really, kinda a "potato potato potato".
Then there is the "chop".... :woohoo:
Anyway, "slobber" is like........a louder note at idle, but also kinda like the exhaust, uh, "slurs" together? Kinda, uh, wet sounding....uh, gee, I don't know how to describe it........ Kinda like the timing is a bit more retarded maybe. Certianly SOMEONE knows what I mean, and can do a better job of explaining it.
Or, just put the cam in, and listen!   :bananasmi

I called the tech line at Lunati and spoke to a guy today about this cam to get more details.....he tells me that to use this cam I will need to upgrade to an adjustable valvetrain....rockers / pushrods???........Now I'm confused as my car has the non adjustable valvetrain now ( not an AAR or T/A) and I just took out my old  Comp Mangum cam that was much the same duration with .470 lift???  My question is....does this guy know what he's talking about and do I need to change to an adjustable valvetrain???     Thanks......"Tim"

you should be able to get away with stock rockers , you may need longer pushrods though as the base circle is lower ,
it is not a bad idea to upgrade to an adjustablel rocker though as the stock rockers can fail & the ratio is not very accurate with stock rockers either

Chryco as to the length of pushrods will I need to have the cam in to measure for the exact length or would you know off hand how much longer I would need than the standard ones???    Also do you have any idea's who is best to order the adjustable rockers from and any idea on the $$$$$
Thanks......."Tim"

the factory pushrod is 7.5 , Comp has a set at 7.55 that is perfect unless you change rocker arms them the whole length will change
Probably the Best rocker is the Comp Pro Magnum Stainless rocker & they are compedetive at around $500 with rocker shafts
next best is the Factory or Crane ductile Iron non roller rockers
I don`t recommend alum for street use
