spark plug wires
« on: May 21, 2006 - 06:05:39 PM »
Did a search in the archives and nothing came up on this subject.

What is the correct color for spark plug wires for a '70 440-6?

Also, should they have 90 degree connectors at the distributor

What brands and sizes you recommend?

I think mine are too long and old.

ChevyC,  You are the victim of "off the shelf wiring"  Get a Moroso spark plug wire crimp tool and take off the Distributor cap wire ends, shorten those wires, then recrimp the ends back on.  You should be able to reuse the end if you removed them carefully or buy new ones from the Wire manufacturers.   I always buy the cut to length wires. That way everything looks neater.
When you cut the wires, be very careful about cutting the outer layer of the inner conductor. if you use a rozor blade, sneak up to the very edge of the silicone then stop. Then use a school-type hand held pencil sharpener to take down the layer.  Some of those wires don't conduct through the center of the core but use the outside of it. That is the side that you don't want to nick with a blade.
