Throttle linkage adjustment
« on: May 22, 2006 - 03:18:23 PM »
I have a 340/727 in my cuda.  It has the one piece throttle rod and a Holley street avenger series carb.  I have the holley bracket for chrysler applications (http://www.holley.com/20-7.asp) on the carb.  I found out the hard way what the thottle linkage is for, and now the car wont shift into 3rd gear.  I know I need to replace the front clutch in the transmission, but I also know that if I dont get the throttle rod adjusted I will just end up blowing another clutch.  Problem is, the carb lever has more travel than the pressure valve on the transmission.  I have the throttle rod in the hole furthest out on the transmission to get max travel there.  My service manual says that the peg on the carb should be touching the back of the slot in the throttle rod linkage so the rod starts moving when the carb is first opened up.  However, if I set it that way the carb can't open up fully.  If I set it so that the transmission pressure valve is fully actuated at WOT then the peg is not in the back of the slot and the throttle rod doesnt start moving until the carb is about 1/4 open.  So I must either have the wrong throttle rod linkage for my combo, or the adjustment has to be somehow compromised with a holley carb.  What should I do so that I dont blow a brand new clutch in my transmission?  I'll post pics if necessary.

I set the throttle pressure rod so that is is all the way back @ wide open throttle & use a spring to pull the rod forward so it move with the throttle

It's a bit more $$ but I think it is a way better product. I had a lokar cable kit and I would recommend this instead.

:iagree: Yes, with the Lokar kit there is alittle "fabricating" that you really need to do to it to make it work "perfect". Can you post a pic of this kit:  http://www.bouchillonperformance.com/BPEtkdc.asp on your car?
