Finally pulled the 318
« on: May 25, 2006 - 08:37:50 AM »
Well I did it this morning before going to work, yanked the old worn out 318!  I had to use every trick in the book today and then some.  Pulling an engine by your lonesome is tough when you don't want to damage anything.
I used someones trick on this board of jacking the rear up and placing it on jackstands.  Then I starting to pull the motor but didn't have enough lift to clear the severe angle of the tranny so I took the valve cores out of the front tires to deflate.  I also used a bungee cord becuase the engine kept twisting on me so that helped stabilize it and keep it straight.  Finally with the hoist fully jacked I was able to turn the engine sideways and clear the rest of the radiator support.  My only problem was that the hoist was so high that it wouldn't fit out of the garage, so another plan to keep the engine sideways while I lowered it a couple of inches to get it out.  Of course it wouldn't roll out, so I had to use a pry bar to make the hoist roll.  :faint:
Now I get to clean up the engine bay and shoot it body color.  Change the torsion bars and drop in my 440   :burnout:
So this Memorial Day week-end I'll be doing some of this  :hyper: :working: and hopefully in the end  :bananasmi

I'm hoping.  Just find out that the pool liner is ripped so I'll be replacing that this week-end also.  I can never catch a break.  :pullinghair:

Nice job, been there, had to pull engines myself a few times. Hope you have some help going back as it's usually harder to get back in.

Heh, I just pulled the 340 from my dad's challenger a couple days ago so I guess some of the purple guys are doing the same. Im just glad that my dads car was a 4-speed because its so much easier to drop the trans and just pull the engine out by itself. I hope that 440 goes in easy for you and make sure to post up pictures when you finish

Good job, MyMopar!  Very smart how you used all those tricks!

Hmmm....everyone's putting in a 440!

Stupid me, on craigslist last week someone was giving away a motorhome with a 440 in it for FREE!

Should've snagged it but no room in the yard.  Oh yeah, the other problem: the wife.   :(
