Small Block Supercharger Kit
« on: May 27, 2006 - 11:38:16 PM »
Anyone know of a proven/complete supercharger kit that will work on a 340 (8.5:1 comp)? I have been hunting around and it seems there is a kit for every chevy and fords but nothing that completely supports the 340 motor.

Got some info/links?

I don't know how proven/reliable it is but you could try Bob at http://www.thesuperchargerstore.com/

Here's a reply from a couple of years ago that I got asking him about my '72 340 with 8.5:1 compression:

"I do not believe a car with an 8/71 build date is a left over 71 model, so your compression ratio should be just fine. The engine has a lot of miles but if it is in good condition the supercharger will not adversely affect the longevity. The Thermoquad carburetor is a problem though. You will need to use a Holley with mechanical secondaries. The boost is changed by changing the driven pulley on the supercharger. You should have no problem achieving 400 horsepower. The price for a P-1SC for your small block is $2696.00. Power steering adds $400.00 for a new Saginaw power steering pump with remote reservoir and new hoses. Power brakes adds $50.00 for a check valve for the power brake vacuum hose. Thank you for your interest in our product.    Bob"

Thanks for replying back, I actually did find that site along my searches and he seems to have a good product but I was hoping for a cheaper kit or more performance numbers for the small blocks. I however plan on contacting him to see if he can get me those specs/numbers/price.

For $3000+ (which would be minus any intercooler), I would consider a turbo setup. Something in a T3 or T4 ($300-$500) with a custom exhaust add-on($300), blow off valve($200), and intercooler w/plumming ($400).

Any other kits out there that anyone might know of?

Someone on this board has some sort of a turbo set up on a small block, maybe on a Duster?  Not sure who though.  Sorry!
