B-body 8 3/4 in E-body?
« on: May 28, 2006 - 03:03:22 PM »
Are there any issues with fitting an 8 3/4 rear end out of a B-body under an E-body, or are they interchangeable?   :dunno:

You will either have to move the springs in or the spring perches out. I have put B body housings in both the Cudas I've owned, as they are easy to find, and it gives you about 3/4" extra tire clearance on each side. I have gone the route of moving the spring perches in both times that I've done this swap. I believe there is about 1/2" difference on each side. It's my understanding that the Mopar Performance offset shackles and front spring hangers will set the springs in the right amount so that the B body housing is a bolt-in, but I have always gone the cheaper route of relocating the perches.

The MP brackets move the springs in 3/4" on each side, they can be used, but 1" is needed. Dr. Diff has a 1" offset kit that is an easy bolt in and fairly priced too. You can find them at http://members.aol.com/doctordiff/other.html

This is info that I just found out myself, but will soon be spread all over the E-body World.  A 65-69 C-body and very likely a 65-70 A100 van 8 3/4 rear will bolt into a E-body perfectly.  The only difference is it is 1/8" wider at the hubs.... and it may have bigger brakes.

There it is, its out there.  Spread the word.
