    I just caught the news, and altho I missed exactly where, in Ontario, Canada this evening, two jerk-offs were racing their "red Honda Civics", when one of them ran into another car, killing the couple on their way home after celebrating their 17th wedding anniversary.  Altho PM Harper said only a few days ago that he plans on new legislation to crack down severely on street racing, the 19 yr old will only be charged with dangerous driving, and won't, by the looks of it, be charged with vehicular manslaughter or dangerous driving causing death!  What a joke!!!

    Why is it that he punk is ok, and the couple he hit are dead??  Where's the justice??  And I bet that after it happened, the only things he was worried about was his car, and the amount of damage!

    That little sh*t should rot in jail, and his Honda should go to the crusher!  The couple leave behind a 7 year old girl, and that makes me think of my own little daughter, and what if one of these punks ever left her an orphan on any of the days I leave the house??!! 

    To the thoughtless prick who was responsible, I hope you spend at least one night in jail with a large cell mate named Bubba!

    Thats a sad story . . .  :sadwavey:  If you want to race, take it to a track!  Don't do it in the street with innocent bystanders around.  :nono:

     :iagree:  I hate all the kids who feel the need to be a**hats while they're driving. I see it all the time here in Minot. Usually its a car mommy and dad bought them.  :stomp: :villagers:

    What a tragic story!  I don't understand how in the world he got out of any jail time with 2 people dead!  So sad.

    Sad story..   :walkaway:  Wonder why there are those of us that own/drive high horsepower cars that are extemely fast that don't street race and endanger innocent folks? Then there are those folks like in this story that have cars that are marginally quick but seem to be ready to race on the street at the first opportunity.   :dunno:  Can't be because they are young and don't know better, because we have young folks on this board that drive hot Mopars that don't street race.  GoodysGotaCuda is young and he does it right------if ya wanna race---go to the track and light em up.......    I hope there is some form of justice in this case...   Oldschool

    Very sad story for the family's :villagers:   If enough people spoke up in outrage it could make a difference! I don't know where this happened but In Iowa the police can wait for up to a year before filing charges,so it ain't over yet!

    No reason to be street-racing, esp. if other innocent people can be endangered. And Oldschiool, you're right, why does it seem that the perpetrators wreck vehicles, kill other people, but they themselves walk away with barely a scratch? Where's the justice?

    You know it is odd that you got so upset and mentioned how you stopped to think of your own girl, but you also posted this?  What side of the fence are you on?

    Sorry, devils advocate - I don't see the big deal. Couples die everyday, it'd be tough to sell me how one couple is more "innocent" or otherwise deserving than another. Street racing has be around longer than I have, and it will be around long after I go. Proven, established fact - you simply cannot legislate behavior.

    That's not the point.  The point is, due to this idiots reckless driving, 2 people are dead, and a child is without any parents.  The deaths were bad enough, but do you have ANY idea how hard it is for a kid to grow up without parents?  I know from experiance, it sucks ROYALLY sucks ass.  For that alone, the idiot racers need to be punished severely.

    Just because street racing has been around for a while, doesn't mean that the racers shouldn't be punished if they **** up like this.

    I agree to disagree with what Bonkers said. You can't legislate behavior up until a point but, in a certain extent you can legislate behavior in other ways. The whole point of the matter is this kid will no longer have two parents because of someone's carelessness and neglect on their part. The point of the matter is this kid is basically getting off scott free and it's basically almost awarding his behavior by letting him get off scotch free and without taking any responsibility or accountability. That's problem with a lot of things in the world is nobody has the balls to step up to the plate and say I screwed up. Rather than they displace the blame on another individual rather taking accountability for themselves.
    The problem with this story if place yourself in the shoes of if this kid would of killed your family how would you feel personally about the situation. I think you would hold him accountable for his actions. Racing on the street is dumb now a days and IMO not worth killing someone or hurting myself to prove my ego and throw about my authority but, using the go go pedal under my right foot. Just my two cents.

    Easy guys we are all family here.

    This is a tragic story indeed. No one wants to hear about this type of stuff happening and even more so knowing how speed kills no matter how it goes down. I don’t know if these kids got the get out of jail free card or not but I am however sure they will be thinking of the lives they took that day for the rest of their days.

    As for Bonkers quote, however being a bit insensitive to someone’s loss, I believe he was simply stating those “kids in the civics” are repeating history. Until you lose someone close to you, you can not begin to understand the impact of this story. Personally being a family man these days, I observe a family loss as paramount these days and can relate with lossing someone close to you.

    I can’t speak for everyone but everyone here but I can pretty much guess that everyone here has driven fast in their life times and some still do. Our muscle cars are a testament to that statement; otherwise we would be in another form taking about our geo metros.

    The basic principle for muscle car manufactures back in the 60s and 70’s was not to just drive them from point A to point B. Considering there are more 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile tracks these days then there were back then, lead many people to do illegal street racing back in the day. This trend to be cool by street racing around the younger generation still continues today and with more population/congestion this is NOT a wise choice.

    Bottom line, educating people about street racing can be a hard. However events like this make it all too clear as to why it is not a good choice to speed, espically when someone loses their family members like the ones described in this discussion. Honor the memory of the people lost here and make the smart choice of not street racing. Cars can be replaced, people can’t.

    Let’s end this thread on a positive note. Go cruising and keep it safe. Keep it on the track, off the streets, and possibly save a life.

    Myself for all out racing i do go to the track, no questions on that.

    Of course driving what i drive daily I get the occasional chucklehead that thinks hes the king of the road in his whatever pos-mobile. I have been know for, very short mind you, runnings with another car. I'm sure everyone on here has done it before, or a very good portion. I do NOT, repeat, Do NOT do anything what i consider wreckless...some may say seeing that shift light flash with a car next to you is wreckless...i would say there is a fine line there. The line being, knowing where enough is enough. Any sort of traffic, i do not pull excessive speeds for the given area, i definately do not weave traffic like i see people do, and i defiantely dont do it with anyone else in the car with me. There is definately a fine line in what is acceptible for running on the street. Of course every ricer ive ran into ive demolished by the time i hit 2nd gear, so it doesnt go much more than that.  :naughty:

    The local track runs midnight mayhem (street night) events monthly. they average 350cars and there was a news report on how much street racing has lowered since that started. Part of it could be the fact that these kids are getting hand-me-down cars and have no respect for them. They didnt work hard to get their cars...whatever the case may be, it sure is stupid when they cross that fine line and someone else gets hurt. I'm all for rather seeing them get taken out in the wreck than parents to a 7year old girl. Thats just a shame.  :villagers:

    Agreed.

    It is always better at the tracks. Think about it,

    1. The constant chances to do runs against other cars. (Goodys example, 350 cars is a lot of verity).
    2. Controlled environment, don't have to worry about anything aside from doing your run.
    3. Emergency vehicles, equipment and EMT onsite just incase anything goes wrong.
    4. No chance of a Cop giving you a ticket for speeding or reckless driving on the tracks.
    5. Gets you greater respect with your friend and fellow racers. With solid numbers to prove what you can do.
    6. Meet new friends and gives you a chance to get out and hang with your current friends.
    7. Loads of people to help you if you break down.

    The list can go on and on, most importantly it helps get rid of the need to race down public roads. With very little needs and cost to race on the track it is foolish not to give it a try. Check you local telephone book or the internet for a track near you 1/8th or 1/4 mile they are all good stuff.
