OT / older mopar value question
« on: May 29, 2006 - 07:22:38 PM »
My uncle has an original 62 Savoy 413 max wedge 4 spd car. It's all there and original to the car. He has the build sheet. The car needs to be completely restored. It's a very rare original 413 Savoy. He may be interested in selling. I'm trying to gauge the value of the car. He told me they made less than 50.

"I believe it is Worthless   If you would like i can haul it away for SCRAP  "

LMAO   ..yea.. that's what i keep telling my uncle.. I'm like.. it's just some scrub b-body with a max wedge 413. He was conteplating selling it so he can buy some done mopar to drive around it.. he's never gonna restore it. On the other hand, i think he's out to lunch with his price.. he wants 25k.. and i have no idea what the real 413 savoy 4-spds bring in that condition.

I know it's the 410 hp 413, which was 11:1 and not the big boy 13:1 compression. Then again.. imagine if you could buy an original 71 hemi cuda 4-spd needing restoration for 25k..??  hmmmm

I'm gonna take some pics of it this Summer and submit to "Cars in Barns". People like my uncle.. absolutely know they're not going to do anything with it.. yet they hold onto it for shear conversation..  really pisses me off.  lol

The condition and body style obviously will be in the equation, but with the few built let alone still around the price you quote is realistic. Now what do you think a 64 Plymouth with a 426 Maxie would bring, I cry every time I think about passing that one up. The guy was letting it go for $10,000.00 because someone stole the intake and carbs. As far as I'm concerned it was still a deal, even 5 years ago. ?

It's a steal at $25K if it is a max wedge. If it is a street wedge,  not so much... hard to say without knowing the condition.

Yes, pics would help, and knowing if the body was rust free would also help; if it is indeed rust free and original as he claims, 25K is NOT an unrealistic asking price, IMHO. It's a very rare car, and from the sounds of it, original and unmolested, even if it needs resto. Very few like that left in any condition.

I emailed the guy from the above website. He said the savoy max wedges are extremely rare. He said there is 42 savoy max wedge cars. From there it can be further broken down between autos & 4-spds to 11:1 and 13:1 compression for the max wedges.

My uncle does have the "real" 11:1 max wedge, 4-spd car with some rare trim option. The body has some rust, but it's not far gone. He def knows what he's sitting on. It's just unfortunate that it's gonna sit there.. he says he's gonna restore it, but i think that even he knows it's too big of a project for him. Hard for him to let it go since he's the original owner.. i can understand that.

ahem...   A 62 original 413 max wedge sold @ Barret Jackson for a cool $300k. Found out that they made thousands of savoys, but they were all 6 cyl's. They only made the 413 max wedge in '62 for the savoy (and only like 42  :money:).. then went to the hemi in following years.

As inflated as BJ's prices are, I'm guessing my 'favorite' uncle's car is worth some jing just sitting in the shed. Come to think of it... maybe I'm his God son.. I'll have to check into that.

Really, I'd luv to see him restore it, but at LEAST sell it so he can buy something rare that's done.. like a hami dart clone or something.   :burnout:

Just be careful about putting too much credence in B-J numbers when trying to establish an accurate value of what the car is worth. The feeding-frenzy circus atmosphere there along with too many high rollers with too much $$$ and too few brains & too little automotive knowledge causes a lot of those crazy prices.....  ::)
