Points vs Electronics
« on: June 01, 2006 - 06:05:55 PM »
Just looking for some input on the Points vs electronic egnition.
The question came up the other day during my 383 rebuild. I want to keep as stock as possible but I would think the electronic egnition is the way to go. What say you.

It is more efficient, and you won't have to be messing with the dwell. Go electronic.

Go electronic, hide the orange wire and ECU, and it'll look stock.  It even now uses a single ballast resistor.

You could even use a modified distributor that uses a GM HEI module screwed to the underside of the distributor that hides it even better.

Check out pertronix  DIY  conversion of your existing distributor.     I used this on my 68 convertible and its easy and runs well and looks proper.

But Robb,  If you run that petronix, 1. it's expensive 2. you can't go to the auto parts store and buy a part to get your butt home.

Go electronic. I used to be a stickler for the stock look, but after recently installing the MSD set-up and enjoying the dramatic power gains, I've kind of relaxed my views a little bit. Besides, if you do sell the car, it's easy enough to go back to points and the stock look.

Electronic is the only way to go. No more burned points and the dwell will not change. I put pertronix on my Cuda and the only problem is parts are not avalible at your local parts store.

The only possible problem is a NO-SPARK condition and a NO-SPARE in the glove box.

I think I paid 39$ for the pertronix ?   :angelwings:

and you have to admit anymore...   there arent as many things at the auto parts store that you can buy the same day as you used to...     I spend most of my downtime due to waiting on parts rather than parts waiting on me   :cooldancing:

your point is taken though
