1974 Barracuda Tail Panel Emblems
« on: June 02, 2006 - 03:26:42 PM »
I have a 1974 Barracuda, and the tail panel has 3 holes in it, two on the top and then one right under the one on the right shaped like this @    @

                                                                                                                                                                                                 @
I belive the "By Plymouth" emblem comes with two pegs and goes on the bottom and there should be a "Barracuda" emblem that goes above it but I believe that has 3 pegs, so neither would fit the configuration I have, anyone know what should be there or came originally???

Thanks

Also, who is a good source for new emblems?

Big Cuda emblem on top- used two way tape original from factory and then the smaller  by plymouth has the two pegs .

Sounds like a dealer installed emblem under the "by Plymouth" emblem.

Maybe it said "The Lone Arranger's Used Cars" or something

Is it big enough to be a valve stem hole to air shocks?

Thanks for the welcome, Good call on the possible dealer installed emblem, I just dont know how far apart the pegs should be on the "by plymouth" emblem, the holes are not big enough to be valve stem holes.

Welcome, junkydogg.
My '73 Cuda, the cuda emblem was also glued on, but the "by Plymouth" had pegs.  The pegs are 2 1/2 inches apart.

Two questions

What are the first 2 letters in your VIN?

What does the back of the panel look like, are there other holes bondoed in or are those the only holes?

my guess is that the dealer installed its own dealer tag.  my 71 barracuda tail panel was drilled for a dealer tag which had pegs and a nut similar to that used on the by plymouth emblem

BH, its a Barracuda. No bondo or other holes covered up. They seem to be the only three holes there

I don't have a barracuda but I suspect that you should have had 4 holes at one time. Just a guess but someone might have mig'ed up the hole and did a good job sanding it down to look like there was not a hole?

Either way I found some pics of a barracuda and made my own pic that might help you out. I tried to outline where the placement of the lower "by plymouth" emblem should be based on the position of the barracuda emblem pegs above it. I would just get a replacement "by plymouth" emblem and drill a hole based on the Pegs on the back of it.

Hope the pics give you a better idea on placement.

Thanks for the pic.., so does the "Barracuda" emblem have only 2 mounting studs?

Thats my guess. I was looking everywhere for a picture of the backside of the emblem. That picture I found on ebay from someone selling one and from what I can tell it only has the two mounting points for the "Barracuda" emblem. I would suspect this would do the job, considering that the "cuda" emblem is only stuck on without any mounting holes.

Anyone else out there with a Barracuda that can verify the emblem mounting holes from inside their trunk?
