Any body use JUST SUSPENSION REAR SHACKLES?
« on: June 05, 2006 - 03:25:53 PM »
I bought the adjustable rear HD shackles for the leaf  It seems that it is bottoming on the rear valance.  Do they mount a different way or do I have to put them all the way up?  I like the stance now but can't help to think what its going to do under there!  I went with the stock height (middle)  I don't know how much it will actually raise it if I change now.  235 60 15 front 255 60 15 rear no rubs anywhere.  I don't think a pic will come out that good.  But if I have to I'll take one.  Has anyone else used these?  Seemed like a good deal compared to stockers @ 35ea  these were 100/pair

Thanks tom :wavingflag:

Tom,

I have never heard of adjustable shackles. Sorry.  :-[ Your tire size would work on any E-Body. I might be out in left field here, but I don't think moving them up would be that noticeable. There really isn't that much pressure back there.

the way the rear leafs work in Mopars longer rear shackels will barely make a difference in ride height , the rear of the spring is soft & gives the car ride quality while the front is very rigid & does all the work of transfering the power to the ground , I have seen 4" shackles not even raise the rear 1 " at the bumper
I just bougt a set of repro shackles , all stock dimentions for $35 for the pair

Thanks these were supposed to be hd w/poly bushings and adjustable.  So much for the adjustable part!  Thanks I'll just raise them up

Tom,
I would love to see what you are dealing with, but if you only have to move it up or down an inch or two, your stance won't change much.

I'll try to get some pics after dinner I think the next hole is 3/4" higher/lower.

The shackles are touching the valance panel don't seem to be doing any damage for noe I hit a few speed bumps on the way home yesterday but I think I'll need to move them up  I'd cut them but they are pretty beefy but if the stance is altered considerably then I'll cut them.

They have them on their web site Just Suspension

I guess moving them up a notch might pull the shackle off of the rear valence panel. It just seems the problem is the shackle is too long. Where you have the spring mounted now, looks like where mine is.  :clueless:

Looking at it now I'm not even sure moving it will clear the valance?  I guess I'll try it  Seemed ok when I put it in but it must have settled some after the shakedown run of 15mi  They are new MP HD springs.  I had to get the skyjacker air shocks off!

Thanks for the input

A little off topic, but changing which hole you mount the spring to on the shackle adjusts the ride height doesn't it? This is the only benefit? Reason I ask is I ordered E Body shackles from Mancini and they sent me B Body which have the hole 1/2 inch higher.

Yeah I think it changes the height  that what they advertised but seems useless on an e-body  if I can't adjust them to clear the valance  I don't know if the e-b-shackles are the same they may be

The B body ones Mancini sent me ( mopar brand ) have the mounting hole in a different spot to the ones I pulled off the car. The actual length of the shackle is the same though.  :dunno:

The ones I pulled off the car were bent.  :1zhelp:

For the most part when dealing with shackle lifts, I was under the impression that the lift you gain is only 1/2 that if what you are changing.
For example, if I put in a 4'' long shackle, my actual lift gain would be 2".  So going onthis theory moving the shackle 1 hole would gain you no more than a 1/2 inch difference.  Even still moving the location you bolt to would still have the shackle itself in the same position.  My suggestion would be to grab a 4.5" angle grinder w/cut off disc and cut away.  From one pic it already looks like the shackle made contact with the valance, or at least rubbed some dirt away, that is too close.
Of course you can always cycle the suspension using a floor jack and jackstands (or a forklift if you have one) to see if it will contact.  Then you'll know what to do for sure.
