best deal on shaker air cleaner assembly?
« on: June 06, 2006 - 01:35:19 AM »
I have decided to build my big block and do an R/T clone... with a shaker if possible.  :droolingbounce:
I am leaning towards one place to get the conversion kit from (hint: it rhymes with "ARMS") but need to find a good source for the shaker air cleaner assembly. Do C-C members get a discount anywhere? Please give me suggestions for vendors... at least those who are reasonably priced.

I need:
base plate (4bbl)
adapter ring
shaker bubble
bubble vents
Warm and cold air doors (optional)
Door cables(optional)
am i missing anything?

Brent

let me re-phrase... PRICE IS A CONCERN.

550 (base plate/adapter/lid)
400 (bubble)
300 (air doors)
250 (grills)
_______
$1500 and this doesn't include cables, element, support feet or anything else!  :eek2:

I cannot afford this... any other suggestions?

I can understand price is a concern, but your trying to install the hottest setup on a ebody there is, and you don't want to install junk.
If your lucky you might find the stuff on ebay, but people there ask for an arm and a leg also.
Good luck.

If price is a big concern, then just go with the Rally hood. The shaker stuff is WAAAY out there, price wise.

Sorry... I hope I didnt come off rude. It just seems that some pricing is just ridiculous and some vendors take advantage of that. Having a bad day and tired of everything I want being so damned expensive!  :money: :pullinghair:

Hey,
Welcome to the club.  :eek7:   :swear:  There are alot of vendors, and sellers on E-Bay that try to gouge us. You are wanting a most desireable item though, I don't know any cheap way to go about it. Like I mentioned earlier, a Rally hood looks plenty fine to me.  :burnout:

Heck for that kind of money you should just cut a hole in the hood & put a blower thru it.  :thinkerg:

If originality is not a huge concern, Year One sells a fiberglass baseplate and adapter ring (about 125 each) and there is a guy in Canada (don't remember the name) that sells fiberglass shaker bubbles.  Doing this will put you around $400.00 for those three pieces.  You'd still need to buy the grilles (vents) and the rest but it will end up being around 1/2 price or less.

There is not a cheap way to do a shaker hood that functions. I have seen a full fiberglass one that has the ring and bubble moulded into the hood. I'm not sure how much or who makes it. It does look good for the non purest.
