Okay, it's a given my Challenger is a 5 at best but she's my project and that's that. What little history i've been able to dig up is pretty cool so i'm ok with how it's turned into a long term process.
There is a cement pad in my backyard, all that's left after Hurricane Opal - before i bought the house - dropped an oak on the garage that used to be there. Shortly after moving in, the Challenger found it's way on the pad up on jackstands under a tarp. Always covered, no one complained and fewer even noticed it...until it was decided that June is cleanup month for my Congressional District.
Last friday i came home after a couple of days working out of town and was greeted by this NOTICE which had been posted on a stake next to my mailbox since thursday afternoon. The very next day, saturday, i received the official letter in the mail. Don't let 'em fool you, government can move with blinding speed every so often.
I'll be the first to say i agree with them...technically, so i called the number, and asked Mr. Bracy how i could make amends. "The vehicle must be on the ground, with a current tag" and he would be by on the 12th to verify. He was very pleasant and i said the vehicle would be in compliance when he next comes by.
Optimist that i am, there is a cool ending to this. Not only is the Challenger on the ground for the first time in 10 years, but i took a chance and asked the lady at the DMV if i could purchase an Alabama Vintage Vehicle tag with 440 on it - and got it :bananasmi :bananasmi :bananasmi
All's well that ends well :icon16:

  I know...[move]Hey Russ!! Get me a garage!![/move]

They tried that here, too many car owners were greeting the "private property" inspectors with firearms. The laws are still on the books, but they are scared to enforce them.

Great plate.

Lemon,
Take your side arm with you Sir.

Thomas Jefferson once said " A little revolution is good for any country now and then."  Something close to that anyway.

I am sure that he had local zoning laws in mind?

OK, that does it...back on my soap box.....

I work for these Govt people, and ashamed at times to admit it....but

Here... a car is considered Abandodned if it does not have a tag and insurance...so people will go and get a tag and insurance.  then they nail the people to the wall because there is no engine in the car.  So...

to avoid trouble they started with :
1. if you cant see it from your next door neighbors place or the road, you are ok
that failed after time.
2 put it in an enclosure.... 2x2 stick framing with clear plastic... they lost this battle and people got to keep their cars....the property looks realy good now....(smell the sarcasime)
3 now they have to see the rear end of your car...and must be able to see that their is no plate on your car or they cant write you up....from the street/road
4 unreal

Hey I live in the county and was written up by the city once...  it was at a time I was sick for a month with alergies so bad I could not move.  I did not cut grass or clean the building suplies from a bathroom renovation I was working on ....they ate the ticket but still (even though I do thiis for a living) sometimes they go too far.

I just realy like the plastic enclosures though... classy.

I ran into the same thing with my 73 Charger race car.  So I put it on the trailer...and they couldn't do a thing about it.

good idea, had not thought of a traler....

I put an old personalised plate on my challener,
the first year I did it the date tags were the correct collr, and from any distance you could not tell.  Then I conveniantly leaned a hood, or board or other part against the trunk ... in just the right spot.  you could see part of the tag but not enough.

Be glad you are not in south Florida.  The car here must run and drive; be insured and tagged or be in the garage.  If not you can be fined $300 a day until it is tagged or moved.  This includes the car being covered by a car cover in your back yard. This is a county rule; cities are even more strict.  My county is the size of the state of Delaware.  They use the saying that the car is an environmental hazard.  I guess the current aluminum tag does a type of electrolysis and neutralizes the hazard.    :clueless:

Hook it up to a big block of magnesium, thats what they do to oil rigs (atleast down here) to keep them from rusting. If anything aluminium will make it corrode even more.

Something to do electrons....
