Is it possible to get the build codes from just a VIN?
« on: June 11, 2006 - 04:15:24 PM »
I have found what is supposedly an all original 1970 RT, but there's no surviving build code tag. Just the VIN.

It's a Scat Pack car...

...fender tags or the Broadcast Sheet are what you need....if neither exists, you are on your own unless other documentation exists such as original owners, window sticker, pictures of the car when it was new...

.....in short, no.....DC never has claimed to have any records by vin#......unless something has changed in the last few years since I have been away from the MOPAR hobby there is no way to rebuild the info once it is lost....

No.  The VIN gives you the year, engine, model, where it was built, and what number the car is.

You need the fender tag, or, better yet, Broadcast sheet.

Your best bet (if you buy the car) is to register it with Cody on this site, he runs the 1970 LA Registry. If someone ever finds the tag and lets him know he would contact you. Broadcast sheets in LA built cars are rare, but if there is an original window sticker still with the car it would have the build codes.

Best of luck,
Barry

Yep, just like what they said.  Fender tag, broadcast sheet, or window sticker are the blueprints for a cars options.  Barry is right, the best way to get info on a car is to check with the registery for that plant.  I do not show any history on that car yet, but please register with www.lamopar.com if you buy the car.

If you have any other questions about the car before you buy it, please feel free to contact me or post on here.  This board has some of the best members that will take the time to help you.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Thanks, guys.

At the very least, the lack of documantation will keep the price down. :-)

I have both the fender tag and the window sticker - does anyone reproduce the build sheets from that info?
