Heard a HEMI?
« on: June 13, 2006 - 06:55:53 PM »
I don't want to do a poll, but I was wondering, how many have heard a HEMI run in person?  I don't mean these new ones (5.7, ect)  I'm talking "Old School" Hemi's.  And OS, you don't count.... :roflsmiley: j/k

I stopped by a fellow mopar nuts place today, and he fired up his 650 HP Hemi on a stand!  :droolingbounce: :droolingbounce:  :bananasmi :bananasmi :ylsuper: :ylsuper:
It's a 71 date coded engine.  He's looking for a '71 Cuda to drop it in.  He has a 69 roadrunner he's contemplating putting it in if he doesn't find a 'Cuda soon.  I was in hog heaven.  He has 2 warlocks, 2 little reds, a '72 340 'Cuda (currently has a 383), '69 Roadrunner 440 4 spd and dana rear.  69 super bee, 73 challenger, and a few others.  340's, 440's and 383's oh my! I've been thinking of going with a 340, or 440 and bagging my numbers engine, well now my options are more complicated because I can get either one from him, or a 383.  :pullinghair: I probably wouldn't be able to get anything from him, but he and my brother in-law are old high school buddies.  Anyway, sorry I got off track, just a little hyped up!  :jumping:  This was my first time hearing a Hemi, besides maybe a top fuelly, but I still don't consider that the same experience as this!  :wow:

If you think hearing one is great, wait until you drive one! Where are you in Arkansas? I grew up in West Tennessee and lived in Mena, AR for a short time after I got out of school. I have a 73 Cuda that I will restore next year and I plan on dropping in a crate 426 Hemi.

I have heard 'em from the drivers seat on many occasions....
I have heard them at the dragstrips for 40 years...
I have raced against them on the streets in the old days, and lost....

............uhhhhhhh, I've heard a HEMI many times, and they all sound the same...

.........................THEY SOUND LIKE PURE HORSEPOWER

The noise from a Hemi is unmistakable. Same from a Cummins Ram, you know what it is long before you see them.

When you push the go pedal to the floor and all eight barrels are open, there's absolutely nothing else that sounds like it. Like someone said above.... pure horsepower! Makes you think you're in Mopar heaven..... man, I gotta get mine back on the road!
