tq help
« on: June 14, 2006 - 06:50:04 PM »
the thermoquad was working good on the low compression 340 when it was stock now i've rebuilt it with new 10 to 1 pistons,j heads redone with 202 valves, weiand action plus intake, comp xe274 cam 235 at 50 490 lift with the proper springs and headers.the first thing i noticed is the secondarys would not open,i thought maybe this cam made less vacuum? i think the motor should have more punch so im leaning towards the carb.can anyone point me in the direction of tuning this carb.i don't know much about carbs so please explain in detail thanks.

T/Q is mechanical secondaries, You must have a linkage problem. The choke/fast idle keeps the secondaries from opening, I'd start there.

less manifold vacuum @ idle  will have no effect on secondary opening as the secondary open with ported vacuum not manifold vacuum you will need a lighter spring under the metering rods to keep them down at idle
