340 water pump
« on: June 16, 2006 - 04:13:12 PM »
I need to get a new water pump for my '69 340 and I have a question for y'all. I'd like to get a high volume aluminum pump, the ones I have found (Milodon, Carter) are for '70-'90 small blocks and some Mopar #P5249559 and others are for SB Mopar but aren't year specific. I'd like to buy the right one the first time. Suggestions? Who's using what? Thanks!

All the small block ones are aluminum. Mine is from AUTOZONE with a lifetime exchange or refund policy. Those factory water pumps flow alot of water. If you have any heating problems, change your radiator.

I have a vague recollection, and someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't  the earlier model pumps have the lower hose on the drivers side?   :clueless:

They did flip at some point, I think it was 71 or 72. I put a 69 340 in my 73 and I had to search around to get the right timing cover to match with the right water pump to match with kind of the right radiator.
