340-4bbl to 340ci-SIXPAK in the 'Cuda - Help
« on: June 20, 2006 - 04:27:43 AM »

I've decided the 4bbl is too sucky, in terms that it feels almost too "wild". You really have to feather the throttle to get it warmed up nicely getting some good air and fuel up, it's a decent sized carb and IMO too big for my "daily" driving wants. It does need a tune and will be drivable but I've decided I want to get a 340-6bbl setup. The looks are a little better but not my main concern, will my performance increase or decrease? The Demon carb on at the moment is a double pumper 800cmf (I think?).

My 340ci (70-74 block) engine specs: (from previous owners paper work/receipts)
Estimated hp is around 350-360hp at the fly wheel.

Cylinder Heads:

 - Factory W2 oval port intakes
 - D-Port exhaust
 - Extensive port
 - bowl and combustion chamber mods
 - Hardened exhaust valve seat inserts
 - Ferrea 2.02 intakes
 - 1.6 exhausts
 - Comp-cam 995-16
 - Valve springs 1.70" installed height, 130lbs at the seat
 - Comp cams 740-16 10 degree retainers & 10 degree valve locks
 - Crane roller rockers 1.5 ratio
 - Offset intake rockers, straight exhaust rockers
 - 450 340 STEEL CRANK
 - Penned rods
 - intake and headers all port matched
 - High volume sump and oil pump.

Camshaft:

Comp cams 20-224-4 extreme energy, 110 degree lobe centers, .488" intake valve lift, .491" exhaust valve lift, 230 degree duration @ .50" intake, 236 degree duration @ .50" exhaust. RPM operation range 1800-6000rpm. Comp cams custom length pushrods, comp cams hydraulic lifters. jr double row steel timing gear set.

Transmission:

TorqueFlite-727, 2800rpm stall 3:23 8-3/4" Suregrip

Who sells the most complete kit for the best price and the best quality?
Will my engine setup do a 6bbl justice or am I better off sticking to a big 4bbl?

Is this set up/crowd any good?

Thanks in advanced.

Cheers,

Thats some expensive airtime, you should look into Skype, 20 cents/min or something for the internet phone and it works good, I use it for overseas calls.

I won't know basically until the public. He's only told my Mum being the brains of their 7 siblings and being a top accountant. Helping him out with money issues etc.

My own Mum won't even tell me.  :pullinghair:
Though, for good reason, when I get drunk I'll probably tell 37% of New Zealand. lol  :roflsmiley: :drunk:

Anyhow, back to business.....4bbl vs 6bbl and-the-like.

Who did APril get her 6-Pack from ?   She seemed REALLY pleased with the process and outcome.

Man, that sucks!?  :crying: I thought I read somewhere that T/A's-AAR's came with W2-heads?  :dunno: :-[

If I tuned the carb I'm sure performance would be equal to or greater than 6bbl?
Maybe I can get a 4bbl 6pk baseplate/air cleaner. I'll have the look and performance.

That big ar$e Demon surrrre is purtty.  :grinyes:

Thanks for the good and bad news, but I won't be changing the heads, too much money and work involved and I've been told they're really good heads to have, not cheap too.

LET me see if I have this right ................what heads would I recommend to replace a $3000 set of real good heads so he can spned $3000 on a 6 pack which will not make one more HP than he has now  HMMMM I would say go with the edelbrock heads if you are going to be that dumb they will cost you another $1500 & lose more power too

no stay with the heads & carb you have , sounds like some serious $$ was spent to do this engine right the first time

Thanks Chryco, that's what I'm thinking too. He has spent big dollars on the engine, head work mainly.
I think I'll get the Demon tuned properly and keep that as-is.

Is there anywhere that makes the 4bbl 6bbl set up so it looks like a "6bbl" but the base-plate houses a 4bbl carb.
