340ci 4bbl Air Grabber Setup?
« on: June 21, 2006 - 08:34:11 AM »

OK, the 6bbl is not for me, intake won't work with my heads and as I thought I will be making better power as is so why spend $3K+ to gain nothing, perhaps even a bit slower? Anyhow, my decision has been made now I need some more help.

I want to get a Air grabber to fit over my 4bbl. I know 69? 383ci grabbers sit higher on the baseplate and won't clear the hood, so I will be looking for a 69 440 air grabber setup, correct? Will it cover/fit a 800-850cmf Demon double pumper carb, they aren't the smallest carbs in the world.  :sly:

My main questions:

1) Will a 4bbl 440 68/69(?) air grabber setup fit my Demon & sit under the Cuda bulge hood without mods?
2) Where can I find a complete setup? (If at all possible)
3) What else do I need to know/buy? Or is it simply buy the setup, install drive.
4) Will the air grabber get enough air in compared to a stock airfilter? Is it actually worth it, gains or decrease?

Like the ones below is what I am after.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Carl

I have no idea if that will fit as the intake height maybe way to high to fit it under hood , orginal aic cleaners are over $500 if you can find one but the repro ones are easy to get & far Cheaper , 440 units were much more rare too than 383
all you need is the base & lid & filter , it will fit a Demon , it has a standard mount

Try this guy... his name is Steven Matthews. He owns Hybrid Fiberglass Solutions (http://www.hybrid-fiberglass-solutions.com) and is very knowledgeable. and his prices are reasonable! He makes all his own stuff and I have talked to him several times... he is a good guy. I even think he is making some baseplates for people with clearance problems. (I dont remember the exact details.)

Anyway, I was going to order a 4bbl adapter baseplate from him - but I decided to put a shaker on my car instead.. :woohoo:

He should be able to hook you up! Tell him Brent from Austin sent ya'...

Thanks CP & Brent, I have sent an email off to hybrid-fiberglass. Great site with some nice products. They look like what I am needing. I sent him hood photos, engine and specs and if he needs more photos I'll send them.

Thanks guys. Chryco, my engine has a highrise manifold, not sure what type, Mopar Performance I know that much.
Maybe you can see from the photo if it will fit or not? If not, no drama.

On the demon carb I had (and gladly got rid of),

the choke rod likes to interfere with the lip of the hole of the aircleaner.  It is different in than a holley in that regard as it is further "outboard" than a holley.  Choke sticks and doesnt want to open all the way on the dual snorkles

watch out for that.
