383 engine main seal position

I always get mixed up on the position for the rear main seal. Does it go like that in the picture? That's the rear side of the oil seal cap.

Vette,  That's right. The lip goes to the inside.  Here's a pic.

I was actually looking at the package when I copied that drawing.   It was right on the bag that the seal was in.  You must not be using a Fel-Pro seal.

I thought they usually did have the diagram on the Fel-Pro bag but this one just has writing only on it. It came with the Fel-Pro engine overhaul gasket package. Kind of strange.. I like the diagram better... Thanks again!

It's not hard to be unsure of the orientation as the Fel-Pro drawing doesn't look exactly like the seal.

 :) I agree with that. Some of the ones I've used before a pretty poor for something that could cause a big headache later down the road...
