I think your timing would have to be WAAAY off to cause backfiring. As Goody said, what do your plugs look like. Maybe your carb. is running toooooo lean.

JRoss22,   Backfiring could be caused by the spark plug wires being on the wrong cylinders or a burnt/stuck valve.   Check your firing order first.

I know the firing order is correct when I did the tune up on it I had the manual in front of me to make sure I got everything hooked back up properly... I am going to check it out again and maybe pull the valve covers and see if i can find something wrong if not I might just end up tearing down the block for a rebuild....

In all honesty i've done that myself. i had the book and did it 'correct'. and sure enough there was a issue and i had to go back and i had screwed it up. lol. Takes 2minutes to recheck it, and its not uncommon that you screw it up once or twice in your tinkering/tuning days  :smilielol:

Backfiring would be timing, too lean? that'd lead to pinging, and misfiring/crossed wires.

I'm not familiar with woodcreek, but I lived in Citrus Heights for a while, if you can give me some cross streets I'm sure I could figure it out.
