Lost my Job.....
« on: June 27, 2006 - 12:49:13 PM »
It's official, as of July 7th....I am unemployed.   :-\  The company that I work for ran into a problem in the development of our product that is going to require at least 6 months to 2 years of engineering to solve.  Therefore, the Sales/Marketing and Technical Service depts (me), are getting shut down.  I haven't decided what I am going to do yet for sure.  I know that this will put a big damper on things.  I might have to put the cuda and Jeep on hold for a while.  :crying:

I am thinking about going out on my own, doing low voltage wiring (security systems, computer networks, fire alarm systems....etc) and then after I pass my Electrical Masters/Contractors test and get my license, I can do 120 V electrical work also....so, if you know anyone around here, (Lincoln Nebraska) that needs any of that kind of work done...let me know!!  :grinyes:

This was a pretty big shock, since I quit my job of 6 years as a low-voltage specialist to work for this startup company....and then It gets shut down (again) 8 months later.  :hyper:

Thanks for letting me vent a little......

Man, that sure does suck Cannibal. Sorry to hear about it.  :crying:
Hope you find someway to support you and your family and of course your hobby ASAP.

Always a shame hearing about companies laying off people.
Thinking about the houses, families and pressure it puts on the effected people is sad.

Hope you find something soon and something that you enjoy doing.

The biggest part that sucks is that, I got to travel all over the world for free!  My wife was waiting to go with me until we went New Zealand!!  I was planning on staying with NZ!!  j/k  I feel bad that she didn't get to go with me anywhere.... :-\  Maybe I will make enough money with my own company to take her there on vacation someday!  Gotta think positive.  :grinyes:

Cannibal, did you see it coming, sure is some sad news for sure. But with your background you should be able to find something, and the self employed thing sounds nice but man there are a lot more things you'd be responsible for, and they are all costly. Best of luck friend, please keep us posted.

Thanks for the encouragment everyone!  I knew that there was a chance of this happening, but not so soon.

As far as my own business...a couple of reasons for it.  At my last job, they wanted me to head up and start my own computer networking division.  I was pulled into a meeting the day before I turned in my two weeks to do this.  I figured if I was going to build something up....I might as well do it for myself.  I have my Nebraska State Fire Alarm Inspectors license, so I can start off doing a bunch of those...then work up from there.  My wife has told me for a long time that she wanted me to do this, and knows that I can, so I have great support from her.

Yes, it is scary...and probably expensive right away...but I think it will be good in the long run.  I have plenty of things I could fall back on..but this is something I would love to try.

 With that confidence and positive outlook there is only one step before you, go for it, apply for your small business license and business name so no one else can take it. Good luck

Sorry to hear about this Cannibal!  But, with a supportive wife, a positive attitude, and your current talents/abilities, sounds like you're gonna do well.
