I have had the 6 pak on both the 340 and 383.  I could remember wrong but I don't feel it is worth the hassle to change to a 383 and add a 6 pack over using the 340 and adding the six pak.  This is assuming both engines are in equal operating condition.

:iagree: I think that's the best option by far.
You'll make better hp cheaper from a well tuned 4bbl anyhow. (Less hassle, less money and easy to tune).

Just a dumb question to throw into the mix here. Can you even buy a 6-Pack intake manifold for a 383?  :clueless:

Really?

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but I have never seen a 383 6-Pack setup. The intake is different from a 440, so that's why I asked my dumb question.  :grinyes:

In 1968 the 383 became the base engine in the Road Runner package (and Super Bee). It used an AVS carb, which is available now from Edelbrock. Although produced with a cast iron intake manifold, use the aluminum manifold (P4529117), which looks almost the same once it is painted an engine color.

The Holley carbs used on 1970–1971 engines also fit. There is also a 6-barrel intake (P4529055), which uses the 440-6 carbs, linkage, air cleaner, etc. Although not an actual production package, it is still a very nice performer. The heads, valves and cam are the same as the A134

I always thought it would be cool to stroke a 400 and then put a 6-pack setup on it.

I'm no expert on big blocks but it seems to me a built 400 could be a desirable power plant but I guess a 383 being relatively easy to obtain is just cooler.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I like that Ebay seller, Frederick Dodge. I've bought alot of little things from them and get them right away. Their prices are cheaper that what I can get them from my dealer for.

The problem with getting that intake new is , it isn't allways made often. Every once in a while Edelbrock will do a batch and then stop for a while till he starts getting requests to cast it again. Year One currently has them *I Think*
