Ravage,

I can't say I'm a purist, but I like my cars restored to a "period correct" state.  70's aftermarket wheels, radios etc.  Gotta admit, this guy's Cuda looks like it's been done well.  Not my style, but nice.  Unless it'd been "riced" up with 20" wheels and such, I'd never give him a hard time.

I am a purist as well,Let Um hack up the mustangs not the mopars,lol...........But I would never chastise him,it his car to do with what he wants, even If i wouldnt
I agree, but I might buy a car after someone else" hack[ed]" it up if I liked it. IF it is your car, do with it as you please.

I would not say anything to him, but I don't like it. I have seen much worse and pretty much ignored them also. Then again, he may have brought it back from the dead, if so more power to him.

IMO the rules of thumb are pretty simple;

Understand that any modifications you do to a rare or desirable original car could (likely) devalue the car to some degree. In other words, don't expect that others will agree with your personal modification tastes/preferences come selling time. Generally speaking the amount of value difference will be equal or slightly greater than the cost of reversing the modification (if reversable at all). Also keep in mind that regardless of what the custom parts or work you have done costs, it is 100% valueless to a guy who'd rather have stock componants in thier place, this is money you'll spend that you'll unlikely ever see again.

So, IMO, do anything you want to your car, after all it's your car. Just don't get upset when you can't get what you want when it comes time to sell it because in all likelyhood, you won't.

To each his own, if they were all stock (my personal preference) things around the Mopar hobby would be pretty boring

Thought about this alot as I'm finishing up a 71 Cuda that was painted/modified way back by second owner. Car was never finished and I bought it in pieces. Been about a year and a half now but I'm getting closer to getting it done. Other than the paint, hood modifications and chrome car is pretty much how it should be. Has all the good stuff in it and I haven't tried to cut any corners. If and when I need to sell it I hope I can just recoup the money I have in it.

Few photo's, hope the purists don't pile on me too much  :dogpile:

Choppintime, that is retro 70's paint, and honestly we all know someone could always repaint the car, so what's the problem, honestly the only thing I can "pick" on is the exaggerated lift in the hood, can't quite figure that out unless the guy needed the space for his intake and carbs, was it a blown engine at one time or something similiar? I like the paint job, I wouldn't touch that part of it,................I wouldn't do it but I'd leave it as is, it's done professionally and it looks good.

I used to paint them like that in the 80's.  It takes a lot of time.  I would leave it.  There won't be anything like it around

choppintime , I love it!  that will be a cool ride. I prefer the draglites to the keystones, but the keystones would give it the 80s look. there will not be anything around that looks like that and is as clean.

someone post more pics of that 70's custom challenger, in my eyes that car would look better if it didnt have that custom whale tail spoiler, that superbird wing looks good

Sorry, that's the only pic I have.  Found that pic on the internet somewhere.  Thought it was very interesting.

Just a week ago there was another Superbird Wing car I saw for sale locally, a '68 Charger with the Superbird Wing looked coool!

:iagree:  Choppintime, that car is a work of art!

I like the Keystones.  Not real popular but I always liked them since I was a kid.  I actually have a nice set to go on the Challenger.

I love 'em modified.....within reason.  It allows you to fix the deficiencies (drum brakes, bias-ply tires, etc.), modernize and make the car be an expression of you.  A perfectly restored R/T will look pretty much like every other perfectly restored R/T.  Beautiful to be sure, but gets boring after a while. As long as the body lines are kept in-tact or tastefully updated, they're cool by me.

As to the Choppintime's Cuda....Not my taste but awesome in execution! :2thumbs: Would love to see it in person.
