HEMI expert needed?
« on: July 01, 2006 - 05:29:57 AM »
Hello to all.Need someone that's can maybe get some info from the #'s on a 426 hemi engine.want to break it down if that can be done so that if there is a car owner out there looking for his #'s engine that he will get first shot at owning this awsome engine.I have the casting #'s and the stamped #'s off of the pan rail.more than likely this engine is a b-body engine,it was casted on 8-5-68.----casting #2468330-1---------stamp#E                                                                                                                                                                vn426272320682 any help would be great-----the clown

I have never heard of different designations for B-body blocks vs E-body blocks...the only thing that would designate the block to a particular vehicle would be the last 6 digits in the vin....#320682...

I didn't catch that part of the question.....yes, it would have been used in a 69 model car

.....the VIN kinda puzzles me.....normally, the number on the block would read ...

"9B320682"....meaning 69, Hamtramack, and the 6 digits of the vin....my HEMI Challenger block said ....0B100015...almost makes me wonder if it is a replacement block.....just dunno...

I have not looked closely at any Hemis, but I'll take a stab at the numbers;

E - Series (model year, 1969)
VN is likely MN?
426 - 426 CID
2723 - Engine asssembly date from the 10,000 day calandar, Jan 10th, 1969
20682 This number is one digit too long, can you look at it again or post a photo of the whole stamped area?

The above number is called the Engine Serial Number, the VIN number should be on the passenger side of the block.

Since it is a '69 block it has to be from a B-body if it has a VIN on it.

Cool find for sure.

Barry

thanks Barry,I will be moving the engine today and i'll get some photo's then and post them.Once I get these #'s figured out where should I go to check for an owner that might be trying to locate the #'s engine for there car? I really would like to give them the chance to buy it first.-----------the clown

went and got the #s off of the side of the block 9a214171.So if you know someone looking for the original engine and they have proof that they own the car that this engine came out of,please have them get in touch with me because they get the first chance to buy it.If I dont get any response this engine will get sold, and I will post at other sites and try to find the owner of the car.But I will do my best to put the word out and thank's for any help on this------------------the clown

With that VIN it has to be out of a B-body, I emailed Andy C o c k r o f t about it ( www.andy440.com ) and it is not a car he is aware of. I emailed Galen as well, no response yet.

It is very cool of you to try and find the owner of the car it came out of.
