Nope... ::rant on:: those Ivy League jerks rejected me. Guess my 1500 SAT score, Eagle Scout and Governor's Scholar credentials (amongst others) weren't enough for those arrogant bastards.
Princeton - I was deferred Early Decision, then ultimately rejected. Rejected from Dartmouth, Yale and UPenn also. (Didn't apply to Cornell, Brown, Harvard and Columbia). Also Georgetown and Vassar. Waitlisted at Emory and Colgate. All the rest that I applied to, though, gave me generous scholarships.
This year was a strange year. Between the number of kids applying and the sheer number of schools most kids apply to... this just wasn't the year.
Here's a statistic to put things in perspective. Dartmouth recieved applications from 2,200 people with perfect scores on one or both sections of the SAT (myself being one of them - 800 verbal) They accepted total 2,150 students. Now, this is not to say that I am one of 50 kids out of that pool rejected, as they obviously took students with less than perfect SATs, but it just gives you an idea of the competition this year. If you didn't have an extracurricular like "fights crime afterschool using high-tech self invented weaponry while wearing a bat costume", you weren't getting into an Ivy. That's just how bad its gotten. And... don't even get me started on affirmative action. ::rant off::
Rant aside, I am attending the University of Maryland - College Park on a nice scholarship. I liked the school because it was near DC (inside the beltway) without being in the city. In addition, their Government and Politics program is very strong. In addition, since I am still considering a transfer, it was the best balance of a good program with affordability and access to presigious internships.
