    to Big Block or not to Big Block

    Ive got a 70 Chally, S6, auto console, 7.25 rear. B5 blue with Black interior.   The  S6 engine needs work. But I've got a 440/727/8.75 in the works to replace the S6.  What would you do?  any here running a S6????  just to be different????

    I assume you have the small drum brakes too?


    Why not just take the whole K-member, suspension and engine/trans out and roll it off into the corner.  Then build it up with a nasty V8 with the upgraded brakes, swaybars ect.

    That way you still have all the stuff to put it back stock if you need to

    I do have a K frame set (V8 K frame, LCAs and sway bar) ready too. I'm going to use F spndles, and run manual 10.87 disk brakes.  I MAY go to manual steering....I don't know yet.    Those little drums are useless....

    Well I'd put the v-8 in, but that's just me.
    If I really wanted to be different, I'd turbo the s6.

    You can go with power steering from a later model B-body like Satelite, cordoba ect.  I don't think I would do stock manual steering with a 440.

    Don't forget about bigger torsion bars

    Want it easy stick with the S6(and its more rare with a S6 in Challenger then a 440+6) otherwise it need some work and $. Personally i would stick with the 6...

    Actually, there were 9900 or so base Chally S6 cars built in 70.  71, less, 72 even less.  none in 73 I think.  So its not that rare. However, those that survived surely have had V8 swaps....    The S6 I have needs a total rebuild ...so the cost will be somewhat the same to rebuild.

    Do you just want to zip or really ROAR around town? Slant 6=zip, BIG BLOCK=ROAR! You might as well get the rumble the roar the torque and the thrill all in one convenient package!  :2thumbs:

    what is your end-goal with this car and how much $ are you willing to dump into the car ?


    anything between a 383 to a modern HEMI could be your smartest bet,  depends on your criteria.

    If you just like to criuse around keep the /6 but if you want to go fast drop in the 440.The /6 can be biult up for decent hp and torque but even the stock 440 will  :burnout:

    i know this is not what u asked, 6 or big block but i would go with a small block! i love them, nothin wrong with 6 sb or bb but thats just my opinion! i know this will ruffle some feathers with the bb guys, sorry! but to each his own!, thats what makes this hobby so fun!
