Rack & Pinion Steering
« on: July 07, 2006 - 09:48:29 PM »
I've heard that a company is now producing a rack & pinion steering kit for e-bodies, but I can find anything on the net. Does anyone have the web address or phone #?

Thanks!

No, mistake on first post, the show is "WRECKS TO RICHES" On this show they install a MANUM FORCE front end kit on a Satelite- GTX clone, another show they use it on a Dart GTS.

Just Suspensions has an ad on the back cover of the latest Mopar Muscle magazine showing a rack and pinion setup that bolts on the stock k-frame and replaces the steering gear box and steering linkage. I checked their website but couldn't find any info on it there. I remember reading something about it in another magazine, and the setup uses brackets that bolt on where the steering box and idler arm would normally be. Sounds like a pretty slick setup, I'm just curious as to what the price will be on it. Hopefully one of the magazines will do an install and evaluation on it soon.

I'm real curious what they use to join the OEM steering column to the rack? HotRod
style U-joint? :clueless:

I just saw a kit at Carlise yesterday, they claim it is ready to ship, from unisteer for b and e bodies. Comes compete even with a power steering pump for 1200.00, it looked pretty nice, bolts right to the k-member and I asked about heaer clearance and the guy assured me it was fine, that they tested with an array of headers including TTI's.

If you like, when I download my pics from the camera I will post some.

This is so slick!!! Did they say if it's hard to install?

They claim it is real easy, and by looking at it and messing with my setup over the past few weeks I would say that I think I could install some thing like that in about 3-4 hours and still take down a few beers at the same time.

But for the price, you are half way to the AlterKtion kit.  I'd like to see a pic of it at least (no pics available on the site).

But for the price, you are half way to the AlterKtion kit.

That's what I thought as well until I went and checked out the RMS webpage again. The Ebody AlterKation kit is now starting at around $3000 BEFORE adding options... Last time I looked at the AlterKation kits they were a LOT cheaper. :(

BTW, I had called the Unisteer guys about this new kit and so far it sounds pretty good. It is fully reversable if you ever want to change back to the stock steering setup. The bracket to mount the rack uses the bolt holes for the original steering box and the idler arm. Their webpage is in serious need of an update so don't think that that is all they have to offer. I have a full info packet on the R/P kit coming in the mail in a few days and can let you all know what it looks like then. Anyone that want's to see the kit actually installed will get a chance at the Mopar Nats in Ohio. A customer installed one will be on display at their booth there. I belive he said it was on a 73 Cuda.

Oh yea, I almost forgot to mention this. Tell them you saw them at Carlisle and they'll honor the show price and throw in free shipping. I assume that's probably only in the lower 48 US states.
