Help! Trying to locate 1970 Challenger 440 RT/SE
« on: July 09, 2006 - 01:07:09 PM »
In 1983 I made the worst mistake ever by selling my 1970 440 RT/SE.  For years, I've wanted to locate the car.  As of yesterday, I located the VIN#.  Unfortunately, all web VIN search resources can only search 17 digit VINs that only date back to 1981.

Can anyone tell me how to search for the car's current owner/location using the original 13 digit vin?  I've waited over 16 years to find my original love.

Unless the state you live in keeps records dating back to 1970, then you are probably out of luck locating the car. Your best bet would probably be to take a look at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/ and see if the current owner has the car registered.

Thanks for your reply.   Unfortunately I do no know who the current owner is.  The car was registered in Texas up till 1983 when I sold it.  After that, it is anyone's guess as to who owns it or even if the car is still around.  All I have is the VIN #.

Check here too if it was a LA built car.....

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Barry/Cody - thanks for your help.

Barry - emailed you the VIN with commentary.

Cody - emailed you as well.  How would I know if the car was built at LA plant.  The VIN begins with JS29 and ends with 176068.

Thanks again!!

Mike

The seventh VIN digit is the plant code, this one is B for Hamtramck, MI.

My VIN# has an E in the seventh position could someone tell me which plant it came from and how I might find information about the car.  It seems to be a somewhat unique car and I'd like to find out more about it if I can.
