Your RPM may be too low to begin with, when I had this problem I polished every ground & terminal connection from the alt., reg., engine, battery, frame, etc., etc. & the problem went away.

Another thought... is your battery holding a charge? I'm just wondering if your alternator or voltage regulator can't handle the extra load too, meaning one might be ready to crap out.

you may need a smaller pulley on the alt to spin it faster
