Can't answer the poll, doesn't go that far back. September 1969.

Yeah, like I said to someone else upstream I didn't pay enough attention to my math when I was setting this up. My hat's off to you for having your car that long, though.

Sorry to upset you gomopar 440, indeed he may have built that thing from a variety of "left over parts" ? Honestly I didin't look it over that closely, but from a walking distance away the work looked commendable. Which brings me to a general feeling that the car could have been rebuilt into a car instead of what ever it's supposed to be. If the guy had the talent, ability, and money to do this, why not just really save it and make something someone else might want. I guess my personal appraisal was out of line, but if the owner felt so pround of this kind of creation why was he attempting to sell it? Sorry my veiw of the restoration hobby is to end with a positive project, and I'm not meaning this creation was a mockery of restoration, if the guy could do this then why do what he did?

Sorry to offend you or anyone, I guess I didn't think about that aspect before posting my view.............which is (by the way) still my personal view.

Look,

We aren't here to offend anyone. Any comments I made were in jest. None of us has any idea if this car was cut-up or was in a accident and got saved. It was nicely done for what it was, but not my cup of tea. I certainly hope our joking around doesn't get your BVD's in a bind. Lighten up. They could have put a Camaro grill on it or something.

No offence taken and none meant towards you in return. I was just in some kind of a mood when I read that, that it struck me on sensitive a nerve. I just wish everyone could feel free to express themselves either verbally or mechanically in the realm of the cars they own. Hence the long reply about it. I just wanted everyone to think about the fact that there's always more than one possible reason for any particular outcome.

I know nothing about that little car other than that photo that was posted of it. When I saw it, I thought that it took someone with some serious talent to be able to pull that off. Making something so completely different like that takes some cojones no matter what you started out with. How many "Modified" cars have you seen that are basically just a stock car with a different coat of paint, stripes, scoop, wing and nicer rims? I'm a machinist and really I like to see someone tackle a difficult engineering problem and come up with a workable solution to make it happen.

BTW: I am also a realist. If I had that 71 Hemi 'Cuda Vert, I'd most certianly flip it to someone that could pay the going rate. Then I'd use that money to build/modify a few unimportant 318 base model Challengers, Cudas and the like into "MY" ideas of what I'd like them to be. All the while still keeping what I like best about those cars intact. However, if that same Hemi 'Cuda was the only one I would ever be able to own... I'd probably be getting lots of hate mail and death threats. ::)

Your point is well taken. If the car was crashed, and this was the only way to save it, then I have to say the guy was VERY creative. I never would have thought of this.  :banghead: A Duster convertible... NO, I'm just NOT that imaginative.   :grinno: We all have different tastes here, but I didn't mean any offense.

EDIT:  I don't know if this car was numbers matching or what engine it had in it.

For all we know the person selling it may not have been the one that built it. Only the person that actually built it, or a friend of theirs that was around at that time, would probably know the whole story for sure. No reason for any of us to jump to comclusions about it. What we can probably all agree on is that it is definately a unique car for sure.

Bought mine in 1983 for $600 when I was 15. Restored the car and drove it for 3 years. It blew up, I went to college and it has been waiting patiently for me for the last 20 years. The restoration begins in 2007

It was good to meet you as well. I can assure you that no one is more anxious than I am. There is only one problem. I am in PA and the car is in TN. I will likely move back south next year so I don't want to ship the car here for only a few months and have to move it back when it is in a million pieces. I will send lots of pics as soon as I start.

:dunno: I bought mine in 1992 for $3K.  It was a 1970 dodge challenger convertible with a ton of options and a 318 engine. As to dumb stuff done when you didn't know better.  I threw away the fender tag when I was going through a couple of boxes of car parts that came with it.   :sadwavey: I parked the car around 1996 because the engine started smoking badly around that time.  Then spent three years buying parts for the car (360 crate engine, 727 tranny, front suspension, new rear end, rear quarter... you know the drill.  The strange thing is I never expected to break even on the car after all the body work and parts I bought for it.  I just wanted to enjoy the car the way I would have bought it if I had the money back in 1970.  My up bringing on cars was that if you got 25% of what you put into it you did well if you sold it.  The whole point of fixing the car up is for your personal enjoyment and satisfaction.  Which is why my head spins when I see how much these cars sell for today.  Oh, by the way I wasn't to thrilled that the car was a convertible because I really wanted a hard top.  Now I can't believe my good fortune.  Life has been good to me despite my best efforts.   :money:

I thought you were asking specifically about my Mopar, so I answered 16 - 20 years.  For the sake of conversation, I've owned my '58 corvette since 1977, and my Shelby since '83.  I love American Muscle and am proud to say I've never owned a ride not built here ~ :wavingflag:
