I'm at about a year and a half now. New motor-the hopped up teen, new trans - shift kit-low gear set-dynamics converter, rebuilt 3rd member in the rear, aftermarket gauged dash, carpet, seats, steering wheel, harms shifter, rims/tires, aluminum radiator/electric fan, car alarm, car stereo (4speakers-2 in kick panels), wiring in inner-fenders, aux trans cooler in p/s inner fender, electronic hood/trunk releases, denso alternator, superstock springs, summit drag shocks, us body driveshaft loop, ceramic coated headers, 3" exhaust with cutouts/flowmasters,  thats about all i've done to it off the top of my head. Oh and still daily driven since day 1, which exception of the time it was down for the motor build  :2thumbs:

Bought mine in 1980 for $1,000.   Had to get my first loan at the bank. Almost sold it 5 years ago for $17,000 but decided to keep it.

Jim,

There was that 71 Duster convertible at Carlisle that was shortened to the point of having NO doors. Didn't that interest you for $12,500???   :smilielol:

  Mike

Michael, i know you jest with that question, the poor car just sat there all weekend, embarrased by it's owner, what could the poor thing do? It's "operation" is pretty much beyond returnable to it's once glamor days. Personally, owners like this need to undergo an "operation" of their own............anyone willing to play doctor? BTW, anyone who attended Carlisle ever talk to this numnuts? I wonder what engine was sitting under the hood? This was probably once a numbers mathing 340 car...................................  :faint: Where is the puke "smiley"?  :puke: There he is, all over that poor discusting car.  :roflsmiley:

I don't know about you Jim, but I think I might get tired of "hopping in" to that car. This isn't the Duke's of Hazzard.  :grinno:

C'mon, give the guy a break. That little thing (which I DO admittedly find very amusing) for all any of us know, could have been the combined remains of a few otherwise completely unsalvageable cars. Would you think the same of the guy that built it if that were so? Man, to jump on someones case when you don't know the details just hit's me as arrogant.  :bricks1:

Please don't tell me this site is heading down that path. That's why I don't go to Moparts anymore. I saw too many judgemental people there who think they know exactly what is right and wrong and should or should not be done to ANY and/or EVERY car. There also seemed to be only a small minority of people willing to speak in dissagreement to the few pious loudmouths over there. Unfortunately those open minded people usually got ran off after a while. :drama:

If you get upset about that little thing (still don't know what to call it :grinno: ) you don't want to ask me what I would do if I had a real 71 Hemi 'Cuda convertable. I already know you probably wouldn't like that answer. Some owners like their cars to be pristine and original and some like them modded to the hilt. I guess alot of people fall somewhere in the middle as well. To be able to appreciate the differences in our cars, be they factory or frankenstein, is what I like the most about going to car shows and hanging out at (some) websites.

I'm not trying to attack anyone personally here and I hope it's not taken as such. I just hope this site can REMAIN open minded to the fact that cars are somewhat a reflection of the owners personalities and preferences.

Where else would that car be right a home besides the All Chrysler Nationals or the Mopar Nationals.  I bet that car got alot of looks.

Any pics?

It's not often an A body generates this much talk, unless it's a HEMI.

If the price is $12500 that is way to much!!  From the paint it looks like it came from the era when Dusters could be bought for $200.  At that time for that money you drove it home with cold a/c.  Also during that time it was "the thing " to shorten station wagons, etc., into 2 door cars.  If this car wasn't shortened it might not even exist anymore.  It is now a curiosity.  I would not speak anything bad of the owner since I have never met him/her.  It is a vintage Mopar and they don't make them anymore.

Back to topic:

I have owned my 71 convertible since 1980.  It has survived high school, college, marriage/divorce, hijacker shocks, N50 15's, Crager SS's and many other atrocities; including the throwing away of the funny looking paper found under the back seat  :banghead:.  My '70 6 pack Challenger has been with me since 1983. My 6 pack 'Cuda was bought by a friend in '86.  Around a year ago I was able to buy it from him.  It has not been licensed since '75.  I have owned the automatic '70 383 R/T since '85.  I have kept it's build sheet.  The others have been around less time.  I enjoy having the cars and the people I meet in this hobby.
