HELP! Clearance problems!!!
« on: July 11, 2006 - 05:30:36 PM »
I just bought 15x10 (rear) and 15x8 (front) Craegars.  I have disc brakes by SSBC all around.   tire shop mounted all 4, the front wheel was hitting caliper, so they put in a spacer.  Now the front has 1/4 clearnace from wheel well/fender.   The rear , which didn't need spacer has 50 series tires, has about the same space B4 it hits inside wheel well/fender.

I took off air shock that came w/ the car and put KWB all around last year, the back was low, so I lowered the front to match.  I think I can raise it back to fix the front.

My Question, unless someone has another solution is:  are there coil over shocks available for my cuda or do I need to put air shocks back on.  and will the coil over raise the rear enough to have tire clearance and not hit going over bumps?

Is 1" from top of tire to fender enough for car to ride properly.

1" is not enough ,I would not use either coil overs or air shocks , it puts the load in the wrong place 7 WILL  damage the body , you either need correcgt offset wheels or re-arced springs

shocks dont add height- and air shocks like CP said can damage shock tower support.  might try super stocker springs .. that solved it for 275r60 on 15x8 .  not sure about 15X10 unknown offset.  you can get from dealer or moparts connection.

Ya know...I just changed out my entire suspension, including new leaf springs, I think, given that Craegars aren't real expensive, I'd rather foot the cost of 2 new wheels vs new leaf springs and the work that's involved.  I do appreciate the info. My ralley's are new, so for now. I'm going to keeping them on my car until I decide what to do.

Those 10" w/ tires did look sharp!

What kind of front spring hangers do you have? Some have a lower hole, you can use it and gain an inch or so. If you do not have them, you may be able to re-drill yours or buy an aftermarket set.

I wouldn't raise the car at all. I don't like the jacked up look. Are you cragars aluminum? Can you have them cut and rewelded to get the proper backspacing? Some of the custom wheel places will do that for you for around $100 a wheel.
