71 chally N96 car in weeds
« on: July 11, 2006 - 08:13:00 PM »
Picked this 71 up a couple of weeks ago. Looks neat with the weeds growing up thru her huh? Fortunately the previous owner (since 76') took the shaker hood and parts and stored them in the barn. They are sweet! Also has the cassete recorder. Factory big block car. No motor or tranny in the car, said it was long gone, but he did save the 440 6 pack motor (- intake) and tranny out of a superbee he had rolled in the late 70's. I bought this car, the 70' Fury III in the background, a 76 Volare, and a 68 Neuiport + a boatload of parts for one money. The fender tag is there but no broadcast sheet behind the seat. I have heard they can also be found under the dash.....is that true? I've also heard 71 shaker equipped cars are rare.....is that true?Would this car be worth more with a correct date code 383? or with the 6 pack? Looking for advice....thanks in advance

I thought any shaker equipped cars were rare? Anybody have their Galen books handy? Was the shaker an option on non-R/T cars? I noticed the argent grey grille and can't see any rear scoops.

With all the talk about saving the environment and producing less emissions this is the best car to showcase it! Talk about "green"!

Very nice save, Focal 7! :2thumbs:  I don't know the exact number for shaker cars either, but that thing has to be rather rare for just being a factory shaker car.

70 shaker Chally's are extremely rare.. w/ any engine combo. Look up the #'s on 70 vs 71. I do know shakers on chally's were low in # compared to the Cudas.

383 N96 car.. very rare.. valued higher than a 6-pak clone. I found my first build sheet under the driver's seat, I found the second neatly folded above the glove box.. there were none on the back seat as many are found.

Nice find. Watcha pay for it??

Here are some places to look:

Taped to the back side / top of the glove box insert.
Under the front bucket seats in the springs
Inside the bucket seat backs
Under the rear seat bottom
In the rear seat back.
Under the package tray(speaker shelf)
Under the carpet

If this was a L.A. built car, don't bother wasting your time looking for a build sheet.  :walkaway:

Richard,

I have to admit. I didn't pull up the carpeting.  :grinno: It is a replacement, so I wonder if it were there, if it would have been left in place. The dash I tore apart. Not under the seats, or seat backs.. front or back. The original package tray was total crap.

Nice find! Congratulations! I find many build sheets under the carpet, but I live in New Mexico so the carpet is usually dry and the sheets are in nice condition. Good Luck :2thumbs:

Focal - Is that a non-R/T car with a factory shaker?  If so, it'd be extremely rare.  Is it coded on the fender tag for it?  Only reason I ask is it appears to be a non-r/t car judging by the grille and headlight bezels...

Not quite sure by your original post what motor the car came with originally.  If it's a "V" code it's worth way more than an "N" code car...
