Engine Backfire!!!!
« on: July 11, 2006 - 09:58:26 PM »
Today at work I was talking with one of the mechanics about my car and how it is backfiring and stuff. Well he told me he could help me fix the timging to keep it from backfiring but he also said that everytime it backfires that you need to replace the accelerator pump. Is that true or is he just pulling my leg because I know he tends to be a jokster. Any feedback would be appreciated and I have a 340 4bbl with an Edelbrock Performer Series 600 cfm carb.

Backfires through the carb are generally lean mixture & into the exhaust are rich  mixture , not timing related , & no you do not needto replace the accelerator pump with a backfire , maybe he needs his headlight fluid topped up :smilielol:

if your car is backfiring and CP is revving...dont get suckered into checking which side has the backfire--- o at least dont lean over too far and get engulfed in a ball of flame that burn your eyebrows

I've learned to keep my air cleaner on when dealing with backfires, don't need a campfire under the hood.  :scared:

Not to throw a wrench into anything, but if it's always "out the right rear" when you rev it, theres a good cahnce it has nothing to do with the carb, or timing. And if it does it constantly under load, you might as well stop driving it and pull the right head off. And, you should know better than to listen to a Ford guy, unless his last name is Glidden.

Here are three sound clips/video clips I just took today of the car. Turns out it is backfiring out the front right of the carb. What would cause that a I played around with the fuel mixture and no matter what it still backfires. Kinda sounds like on the 4th of july when you got all them kids throwing around monster snaps.
