New Mustang GT takes a backseat
« on: July 14, 2006 - 12:50:07 AM »
I'm still working on the Cuda, just doing the finishing touches on the new motor. Fired it up and broke the cam in but it still wasn't done in time to take it to the local parking lot show last night. So I pulled the cover off the 67 Vette and off I went. I got down the freeway and on the off ramp ( two lanes ) and I'm on the cell phone calling my brother so he can bring his new SRT8 Chrysler to the show. Just as the third lane is about to start ( the left lane or #1 of 3 ) a new Silver Mustang GT, lowered, comes up my rear and goes into the left lane before it even is a lane and blocks me out. Geez what a pisser. The guy goes wizzing by me and stops in the left lane at the red light. The middle lane has a car in it but the right lane is open. The skin head in the Mustang looks over at me pretty much like the cat that just ate the canary. I thought, boy is that fool going to get smoked. Just for grins I gave the Vette a couple guick hits on the gas. I was thinking that this guys been reading to many Road and Track articles about how new cars always smoke the old cars, even though the "427" badges on the hood are pretty obvious. Now the light is getting close to changing. The oncoming cars making lefts were almost through and I could see out of the corner of my eye the Mustang inching forward to go. Now the light turns green and the Mustang launches quick, I hit the throttle, slip the clutch slightly, feel the tires just starting to brake loose, feel the weight transfer, a little more throttle, a little less clutch, the Vette hooks up. A little sidways but no big deal, I bring the rpms to 5500, shift second and I've just pulled him by two car lengths. Cinch the deal.... take my lane back and slow down... The show was great!

Don't you just hate it when that happens? :nono:  I'm glad you did the right thing. :burnout:  Maybe this clown will think twice about his poor traffic manners when he sees an old muscle car driven by someone who knows how to handle his type.   :woohoo:  (And all without exceeding the speed limit; yeah, right).

Nice pic of your cars, love those Vettes! I'm glad to see Vette guys into e-body Mopars like myself.

Thanks Blackcuda! In the early 70's a guy like me could never afford a nice Corvette. I could afford a ton of Challenger R/T's, Charger R/T's and big engine Cudas. I always did well in the Mopars racing the Chevy's and it made it okay because the Vettes or the BB Chevelles were almost always in the rearview mirror on grude nights at the race track. To me, Chevrolet killed all their muscle cars because they didn't want to have another line with a motor better than the Vette motor where Chrysler was just the opposite and I took full advantage of that back then.  :ylsuper:

Cool kill story...   :2thumbs:  I'll bet that young fella didn't fess up to his buddies that he got smoked by a 35-40 year old car.   But I bet he learned a lesson and won't be quite so quick to jump on the old muscle cars.....    :cooldancing:

Cool!! Here are some pics of my 02 Z06, I mostly us it for SCCA road course events, but makes a hell of a street car. The car has been modified and puts down 425 at the rear wheels, just over 500 at the fly. At just over 3000lbs, it easely runs mid 11's on the stock tires.

Thats a hell of a car. I like the C-5 style better than the C-6. What a difference in cars!
