Difference between AMC 360 and LA 360?
« on: July 14, 2006 - 11:18:45 AM »
I have the option to purchase one for $50 and was wondering if the shortblock is the same as a regular mopar 360. So I could use my intake, MSD ignition and buy parts easily!

I may be asking this wrong, but if I remember correctly they were different companies.

Any help would be appreciated!   :2thumbs:

No connection at all, and nothing will interchange save a few peripherals like the starter. On the other hand, the AMC V8's are great motors, and one of these days I'm going to build a V8 Gremlin  ;D

If you've got any storage space and any interest in AMCs I'd say snag the motor for $50.

Definatly, at least it will be good trading stock. While the AMC 360's were no real power houses from the factory, they can be built, and share most of the good points of our small blocks.

I've heard that from many sources, but I don't think it's correct. This is from the wikipedia listing for "AMC V-8":

"Contrary to a popular myth, the AMC V8 was not built by Ford or anyone else. They did share some electrical parts (starter and distributor) with Fords, and some models used Motorcraft (Ford) carburetors, but the engine design is totally different."

There's no citation to look up there, but this has always been my understanding.

AMC's are a big version of a SB mopar, dog leg ports and all.
