I am having the body shop trim and roll the rear wheel well opening lip a bit in order to fit M/T 28 x 12.5 Sportsmans. I bought one of those specimen and a tube from Summit so that they could make sure it would fit before the body work is completed.
Wheel selection was tough, but was simplified by the fact that not many companies produce a 15 x 10 wheel w/ 5.5” BS on a 5 x 4.5” BC. For me it came down to the Torq-Thrust II’s and the Draglites. Went with the Draglites b/c they were a bit cheaper and available for shipment immediately. Didn't want to hold up the body dude.
Also worth mentioning is that I have installed the bolt-in 3/4” spring relocation kit, and I purchased a 1/4" wheel spacer should the 5.5” BS prove to be too much.
Now I have a problem. I received the Draglites very quickly, but along with them came instructions stipulating that they are not to be used with tubes. (Too bad Summit doesn’t include that in the spec’s or notes.)
So, here are a few questions for the more knowledgeable on Cuda-Challenger.com:
1. Precisely how bad is it to run a Sportsman without the tubes? (Saw on other hot rod sites others that do, but I am wondering if they are tempting fate.)
2. What is the difference between a tubeless tire type wheel and a wheel made for tubes?
3. What wheels are out there that are 15 x 10 w/ 5.5” or 15 x 8 w/ 5” BS that accept tubes?
