US cartool frame connectors pics needed
« on: July 15, 2006 - 10:45:15 AM »
Anybody have a pic of the US car tool frame rail connectors already installed with the Emergency brake cable already mounted through it? I'm about to order them. I hear that there is some modifying to do so that the cable can go through them. Thanks.

Well I e-mailed Scott at Harms and it looks like now I'll get them anyway. And I know Steve once had pics of them on his car. But now it's deleted. When I get them, should I coat or paint them with anything on the inside? Maybe just primer them before welding? Or will this be one of my own threads again?

LMAO, own thread huh? What's the matter TC, no one chiming in on this?  :violin:
  :worshippy  just kidding.
I'd paint them inside and out with weldable primer, clean the areas where they are going to bare metal, use the weldable primer there as well, position the rail in place and check for alignment and fit, trim as necessary, mark where they are going to be welded and buff to bare metal again on both the car and the rail. (makes for a better weld). If they are not sealed, you may want to drill a drain hole in the lowest point on them too just so moisture won't get in there and sit and cook. As far as the brake cable goes, just need to see where the best route is for it, my rails aren't welded to the floor so it actually fit over it. That's easy now isn't it? LOL, sounds easy but it'll be a job but pretty satisfying when you're done!

You should be able to get the weldable primer from just about any auto body supply. I buy mine from exactly that place, Auto Body Supply Co.

Probably not a bad idea. Eastwood wants $22.00 a can plus shipping for 1 aerosol can.

Locally you'll pay about 10.00 or 12.00 for the same thing. Show us pictures once you get going on it Mike, this will be fun to watch your progress.

Based on what I've seen this is what most do, just cut a "U" shaped notch in the connector so that the E-brake cable goes through/between it and the foor, leave a bit of clearance on either side and it should be no big deal at all.

Everything is off the car underneath, so I take it that I can put the frame connectors on first then notch the groove out later when everything starts to go back together.

not sure if your are going to also use a six way seat, but scott at harms told me that the under floor seat brackets for these seats will interfere slightly with the us cartool connectors.  he indicated that with trimming, both can be made to work together.  he strongly recommended fitting the two at the same time, especially before welding the connectors in place.
