I assume you mean an open spacer on a dual palne intake ??
 If so it is a common & usually positive change it allows a bit more cross breathing for better high RPM pull without killing bottom end reponse

  Just look at it as a compromise between a single and a dual plane intake. Kinda the best of both worlds.

That's what they did on the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake.  :thumbsup:
