Need help with hesitation
« on: July 22, 2006 - 09:30:24 PM »
I'm having problem with hesitation during acceleration. Was running fine prior to some work I did. I'm wondering if I created the problem. Car idles fine. Its a 440 with dual point distributor and Holley 3310. I changed the jets in the primary from 72 to 68 (did remove the carb to do this). Removed the manual choke with the intention to replace it with a Holley electric choke kit. But put the manual choke back on after having problems with Summit and Holley trying to get a kit with all the parts (took 4 tries). Replaced fuel filter. Have not found any vacuum leaks. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Where is the hesitation happening.  Rolling from a stop, hard launch, normal acceleration?

I have found that initial timing can play a significant role in this...but since you said you just worked on the carb you are probably right in focusing on that.

I'm with 71383bee, when does this happen? and also, is it better/worse hot or cold? Start with the simple stuff, you took the bowl off to change the jets, anytime you take the bowl off a holley, recheck the float level with the engine running, also check your accelerator pump adjustments, make sure the choke is fully open with the engine warmed up.

A leaner mix , change in the idle mix screws or lower float level can cause the stumble , you may just need more accelerator pump squirt with the smaller jetting
