New Elastromeric Bumpers
« on: July 24, 2006 - 11:07:11 PM »
I found this outfit:

Gean Gregory Alhambra Custom Service Alhambra, IL

I have never used them before, but I'm glad to find another source.  My car originally came with a front rubber bumper.

Gene was the only source for these years ago. He's been selling them way before EBAY.    I see his bumpers all over but have never purchased any. (no $)

I've seen the used ones for $800, which is the price for his new ones.  Doesn't seem like a bad deal.

I have front and rear bumper bought from him for a Cuda.  It is a very good quality piece.  You will just have to clean up the flashing and prep for paint.

They have studs that are welded to the interal metal frame and will mount to the standard bumper brackets.  You can kind of see the studs in the second picture.  This is the same picture with the studs circled.  Also note that the bumpers in these pictures have a lot of dust on them.

I agree, Gene is the only source making authentic reproductions, very nice parts. One note for detail oriented people. Gene molds only one style, the 71 Cuda style. If you order a 1970 Style Gene cuts away the lower plate opening to transorm a 71 into a 70. This is fine, but his cutting methods look a bit crude, personally I'd order a 71 and trim it myself

thanks - I didnt see those moutning bolts. I ordered some shaker components from Gene - as most others have stated they need bit of work, but overall I was happy with how they looked.

Are you sure they mount to regular brackets? (for a chrome bumper)??? Because the rubber bumper brackets are different, and are pretty rare... I've been kicking around the idea of buying those expensive ones on ebay, and start re-proing them..I need an elastomeric for my car too... I've seen originals sell for 1400-1600... so 800 bucks is great.... although I'm trying to get one from a friend now for 500.....

I have the same question about the brackets. I want to put Elastomeric bumpers on my 73 but am not sure what brackets to buy??? Someone told me that any 70-72 brackets will work  :dunno: Has anyone in the group done this?

Genes (and originals) had the bumper bolts in the same place as a chrome bumper, in fact the core of Genes (and the factories) are actually a chrome bumper with the ends cut off. If your 72 or later brackets work with a 70-71 chrome bumper they will also work with Genes.

I've seen this topic of different bumper brackets come up a few times and I thought the consensus was that they are the same brackets - is that true or not?

1970 &71 Factory Elastomeric (front) bumpers used a unique set of brackets, what they did was to allow a closer fit of the rubber to the fronts of the fenders. The regular chrome bumper brackets work just fine (most cars you see these days use them) but there will be a MINOR difference in proximity to the fender fronts (like 3/8" of an inch or so).
