Need some input on a '71 Cuda grille.
« on: July 25, 2006 - 02:46:24 PM »
I am getting very close to painting the 71 Baracuda.  It is going to be Curious Yellow with front an rear rubber bumpers.  I also have a reproduction '71 grille that is totally unfinished.   The car is not meant to be a original car, but just what I would love in a dream car.  In regard to the grille, I have been back and forth on whether or not to paint it the body color, or go with an argent grille.  This is where I need help from you guys.  What would you do?

Personally, I wouldn't go with the monochrome look with that color paint - it's just way too much. I have pictures here somewhere of a car in that scheme (and maybe they are even posted on this site) and it's a bit overwhelming. Of course, everyone has different opinions and you may find that you like it.

I vote argent for the same reasons troy voted monochrme. I like a little contrast   :2cents:

I guess it depends on what you are going to do with the rest of the car. If it were me...
I would keep it argent if the rest of the car was going to be stock or mostly stock in appearance. If it were going to be more of a rest-mod or g-machine type of build I would consider going body color. IMHO..

takes some pics!!

It has aftermarket wheels, but that will be the only thing that will not be stock appearing.  It will have a '71 Go-wing, '71 gills, '71 Hemi Billboards, black shaker, and blacked out tail panel.  Not much of the stainless will go back on. Just around the windows and on the front grill.

Why mess with PERFECTION!!?? Stick with argent... unless you are going to do other customizations to add to it...it would just look odd.  :poopoke: :poopoke:

I don't have a picture of one like this with the argent grille and rubber bumper.  This is the closest I can come to in the last picture.  Otherwise I have the one that in body colored covered in the first three pictures from a car on eBay.

How come on the one Scott posted the areas surrounding the holes are still argent but on most of the ones I see the entire grill is one color? That's what I was originally thinking of when I said "monochrome" but if the holes are argent it may not look too bad. Maybe it's just the angle...

Actually the one I posted looks like an argent grill, it's so dark it looked black on that black car.

Here's what I was trying to post.

I think that if you are not going original do what you like the best.  I love the look of the body color grills. Maybe paint the cheesegraters semi-flat black. With the black go-wing & billboards it would look great.  This pic had the chrome bumper but I photoshoped it yellow....I  love the look. Just my two cents.
