Is the price OK?
« on: July 25, 2006 - 06:49:13 PM »
HI all

I got a quote on a couple of items I have needed for my 70 Challenger for a while, from a wrecker in SoCal today & just wanted to know if the prices were ok.
He has the parts available which no one else up to this point has, so I guess that makes it hard to argue, anyway what do you guys think.

Right hand side external racing mirror (painted) $350usd & the 2 plastic panels that screw under the instrument cluster & steering column $500usd (for the pair)

Cheers SoS

Uhm, my best advice to you is to keep looking.

www.moparts.com is a good place to find these at a much more reasonable price.

Heck, someone could be parting out a Challenger and give you these items for a much more reasonable price (i.e. $300 for everything)

But then again, who knows the way Ebody parts prices are going...  :dunno:

I would say the prices are high.  Can you post a pic of the dash parts you need or a pic of your dash showing where they go?
Thanks

Not shure which plasic panels your referring to but I paid $100.00 for a used later model(large base) painted mirror.  '70 Repros are going for about $250.00 ++
here is a ebay for a 71-4 lower plasic

A/C -Heater controlls are pricey and I understand the '70 models may use some unique to that year parts that will be higher

I am not sure what dash parts you need, but I have a '70 Challenger that I am parting out and it had most of the dash peices.  I just paid $250 for the whole car, so I will sell you a couple plastic parts for a lot less than $500.
Sorry I can't help you with a mirror though, he is very high on that too.  I saw a bunch at Carlisle for a lot less.  I would keep checking ebay, or see if you can find someone going to Mopar nats that would be willing to look for parts for you.

www.shakerhood.com or http://www.pgclassic.com/ have these mirrors new. I just installed the one from Ben Snobar(shakerhood) and was ok.

I paid $65 for my left lower dash trim last year and have an awesome 71-74 Challenger one for sale now.

Thanks Guys

This is an example of what's great about this board, people who are willing to help out other enthusiasts. It looks like my gut was right about these prices but as I'd had little success finding these items previously I was almost ready to place the order. By the way brucechally wins a prize for correctly guessing the name of the wrecker.

JS27NOB thanks for the tip on the mirrors, I've never seen or heard of PG classics before & didn't know anyone was reproing those mirrors, are they really OK? Have you dealt with these guys 'cause the site looks a bit dodgy (not sure how the word dodgy travels outside of Australia but it means "suspect" )

inot2old I think bullitt99 has the right idea with the dash panels, 1 surrounds the heater controls & the other the radio I am told the 70 model  is different to the others & my car has A/C so if you can help with those parts let me know. My car also needs a couple of bits of SE trim namely the belt mouldings on top of the right door & the small one on the right 1/4 panel if you have those.

Thanks again for the input guys it is most appreciated

SOS, you should definitely be able to find the '70-only ribbed dash plastics for a LOT cheaper than that!  If you don't get everything you need from Inot2old, send me a PM and I'll take a look at the Nats for you and see what I can find for a fair price. :2thumbs: (I'll probably send you some photos of any items as well as give my description of the parts as I'll have my laptop and digital camera handy.)

I have an extra radio bezel and right lower panel, I also have the heater control panel for a non A/C car.  I  don't know if I still have an extra left lower panel or not.  If you need the A/C bezel, maybe that was why it was so high, I have heard that they are expensive.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Hey SoS, Dodge City (Elko) in Melbourne advised me that they would be getting repro chrome 70 racing mirrors into stock shortly.  I have both mirrors for mine now but it looks like I won't be able to get them successfully re-chromed without damaging the mounts/cabling through disassembly.  I was thinking about getting the repro chrome mirrors for mine as I would prefer chrome to painted and maybe on-sell mine (which would suit painting).  Depends on whether you are after painted or chrome and what the cost quality of the imported mirrors ends up being for mine - something to think about either way.

Just re-read your initial post and you are in the same position as I was with one mirror already? - so my offer may not help as I would probably want to sell both??  I got my RH mirror of ebay for $265 US plus postage I think and probably needs a new mirror glass (little scratched) on top of the repainting.  I'll contact you if I find out anything about the imported mirrors.

Oz

I think I'm going to give PG Classics a try for the repro painted right hand side mirror. They have quoted me $235 usd plus $25 poatage & as my car is not a nos. matching resto it should dome ok. As for the dash panels I might have to get Elkos chase me down some.
