Anybody installed air/fuel ratio system?
« on: July 25, 2006 - 08:05:24 PM »
I was thinking about installing an 02 sensor and gauge/readout in my carbureted 408 Cuda to help with jetting.  Installing the O2 sensor seems pretty straight forward.  I haven't done a ton of research yet but I would like to install it right after the header collector so I don't have to cut my TTI's. Perhaps I will need a 3 wire O2 sensor?  Has anybody done this?  Is it a useful device?  What options are out there for reading the voltage / air/fuel ratios?  Any help would be appreciated!

What you are looking for is called an LM1. It reads in real time, the exh gases and tells you rich or lean. If you buy a single setup, you will need to do 1/2 your engine, or move it from collector to collector to get both sides done. The best setup is a dual one, where you can see either bank by toggling between the sensors. They are designed to be installed in the collector to be very accurate. The further away they get, the more possibility of error. A very good tuning aid, but you will realize how bad carburetors really are once you get one...lol. I've used them before, but never bought one..so i cant really honestly tell you which is better brand wise. Even a single one can be better to tune with if you're not the best at reading plugs or "seat of the pants" tuning.

I did run across a system today for $400 that has a Bosch wide band sensor and a data logger.  It's allows you to capture the data and view it on a laptop.  The system plugs into the lighter so it's easy to install although not meant for permanent installation obviously.  A bung still has to be welded into the exhaust.
