Lets see, Flowmaster series 50, Hush Thrushes, Magnaflows, Hooker Aerochambers and glass packs, anyone have any experience with Dynomax Ultraflows? This is good info, thanks for all the replies, still searching and checking this out. Just don't want to spend a grundle and end up not liking it.  :2thumbs:

I went with Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers. Awesome sound, not too loud/harsh at cruising speed but plenty of ROAR when you need it under throttle. I love it and I'm happy. Plenty of other good makes around too.

NZ, I see that these come in a 7" round version that may fit in the OE location by the gas tank. Is this what you used and if so were there any fitment issues?

Nope, we didn't get the 7" ones, that's a big muffler isn't it?!?  :sly:
We went with the more sane 3" system.

I have flowmaster 40 series on my 340 and it is very loud. I like it and it is the way a muscle car should sound. My dad has a 64 Impala with a 409 and went with Borla. It sounds great off idle and really mean when laid into it. Can some one help me post the clip of it? ITS A REALPLAYER MOV clip. Thanks

Well, I finally got the mufflers. Thanks for all the input, lots of good advice and lots of good information to go on from all of you. Got a great deal locally on a couple of 3" 50 series delta flow Flowmasters. Got the mufflers locally and ordered the piping kit on line. I checked on several other options that were mentioned here as well but this one worked out the best for me. :2thumbs:

Hello,
Was just reading your post this morning.  I have a '73 340 Cuda, I installed the 50 series Flowmasters 2 1/2" in & out with a X-pipe and headers . Sounds nice, not to loud and not to quiet. I also had those 3 disc Car Chemistry collector inserts laying around . So I put them in and it got really quiet, kind of sounds better if your going to do highway driving, I take them out when I'm going to the track. No big deal to change.
Back to the mufflers, they are pretty close to fit but worked out ok, just make sure you weld everything up so you have no rattles....
    Good Luck........

Hey vinb, the inserts aren't a bad idea for when you are going to just do some cruising, I was planning on welding up the whole setup thanks for the info.
Welcome to the site, hope to see you on here often!

I chose 40 series 2 chamber Flowmasters for my cuda. They have a deep sound that will set off car alarms and perform great. :2thumbs:
