Dana rear end measurements for E Body.
« on: July 26, 2006 - 12:15:37 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knows what the width of an E body Dana is and where to measure? I'm guessing that not all Dana 60's are the same width etc.

Thanks.

Thanks Katfish!

As I thought, out of a B-body...44" from center to center of springs.  My question is: can this be modified for an ebody, and if not is it worth anything being out of a B body. It has .354 gears and full backing plates brakes etc.

Thanks.

1badfish,  Make or buy yourself a set of these, see pics, and the b-body dana bolts right in, without moving the spring perches. I made mine to move the spring in exactly 1" on each side to add more spring clearance. We know of a guy that moved his front perches right up against the frame rails and put a 320-50-15 tires into the stock wheel wells.

Can I still use my 15X8" rallye wheels and stock springs?

Thanks!

Yes, the 15x8 is perfect. My Friend is running 15x8s with a dana and 295x60x15 and says that it clears with little  room on each side. He says the only way to get more tire in there is to move the springs farther in than the 1".

That sounds good Shelbydogg, If I get the dana it will be in a package, so i'll decide if I want to keep it or sell once I see it. Does your friend have a B body Dana in his cuda? I would have assumed that the spring spacing would have to be bang on to line up with the perches on the rear end?

Regardless I could probably sell a Dana complete with brakes and everything.

My Friends early b-body Dana is in a 71 Challenger with the moved springs. I have an early b-body 8-3/4 in a 72 Cuda, with my modified hangers pictured above. The perches are "bang on" like you said. Plus I like the looks of a chrome dana cover under an e-body so much that I made a chrome dana cover adapter for my 8-3/4.

Awesome, so its not a huge deal to make it work.  Shelbydogg, thats awesome you made a cover adapter for your 8 3/4..I agree that the dana looks good under the back of a Cuda.

'Cuda360 I love the FAT tires, that what I want. Do they clear inside the wheel well or do I have to lift the rear?

Thanks again!

They would clear with the right offset but You might have to trim the top edge of the wheelwell lip and I did not do that.  The springs on mine are stiff enough that it never rubs at all

Cuda360, If your wheels had another 1" inside offset would you be able to lower your car to fit your tire inside it? My cars sit a little lower than yours. I have some 295x50x15s that I'm going to stuff into my wheel wells and will try both the 15x10" with a 5" and 5.5' backspacing to see which one fits better.

What is your backspacing?

Mine is 10 inch wheel with 5 inch backspacing so 5.5 backspacing would be spot on..
Each one of these cars is a little different so you have to measure yourself. If you got too close to the spring though I guess a little 1/4 inch spacer wouldn't hurt.

I do hate spacers and I wouldn't use one in any event.. call me prejudice

My spring clearence is about 7/8 inch in the pics

Thanks,
Summit sells the Wheel Vintiques 15x10 Rallyes with the 5.5 backspacing. I'll try those and see how they fit. As you can see, I like my cars LOW.
