1963 361 RB???????????????? HELP
« on: July 27, 2006 - 11:20:22 AM »
Ok, I'm asking this for a friend ince I know there's lots of knowledge here.

Someone has told us that a 1963 361 RB chysler is interchangable with a 440. Anyone know this to be true or false.

For example, does any one know the bore and stroke of a 361 compared to a 440 etc.  Thanks in advance.

The 361 is a B-block and is basically the same thing as a 383 or 400. Parts from a 440 will interchange like the heads and valve train. However the intake, pistons, rods, and crank are different. The stroke of the 361 should be the same as the 383 and 400, so Im guessing its 3.38 and I dont know the bore offhand. From a performance stand point, it is pretty much a waste to build up a 361 unless it is numbers matching engine and even then I would build up a 400 and drop that in.....

Right on, other than it is a waste of time. 361's run absolutly awsome, in light cars, get real nice MPG's, and rev higher than the moon.
Great engines, and I mean great!

Bell, and mounts are interchangeable, it is just "B" block.

 :clueless:

There was, wasn't there? All the ones I have seen came out of cars, were B's...........Bigger trucks, (two ton+) Did get some 383's that were a spitting image to the funky cooling head 413's and 440's.
I bet they did make the 361 a RB, but I have never seen one. We had a 68 D600, with a 361, it was a B.

Did they put the RB 383 in cars? Never seen one. :clueless: :dunno:

No.. i did some more research.. 361 was a LOW block only.. so not much is interchangable.

Also, 361s will have bolt on rocker pedestals, and 4 bolt valve covers. not sure when those two items were changed..maybe until 65?
