Thanks keith, much appreciated mate but I couldn't do that. It's not a sympthoy post I'm basically just letting you guys know what happened to me and for others to avoid GV at all costs. But, who knows, I may end up needing a 4-Speed plate off you lol. :naughty: I think it will stay in though, as much as I hate it, I/we have still spent so much time on it. I guess it's like making a big cake, letting it go frozen cold and then thinking about eating it, or, throwing it away. Taste is better than no taste. Just annoys the heck out of me because this is probably the first time I can't really do squat or resolve the matter. I'm one of those guys who takes his car back to McDonalds and "reminds" them that they left out a Burger. It's not the money or how much of it, it's simply just a matter of principle, corny yes, but oh so true. What you pay for is what you should get.

In this case it's what you pay for you you don't get, but, spend $10K on it and it might work at the end, nope, still no good? Leave it as is or waste more money - "Gear Vendors, always willing & ready to F@%k up your day".

Carl, I've been watching since the beginning... what a bunch of crap!! I wish this was a better ending, as Nikki's on the highway alot and turning dowm (lowering )the R's would be great! I wonder how they would feel about you telling this story in front on their booth at this years SEMA?? They should refund your money IMO, I can't belive they dont know how fast word spreads on things like this through the Mopar community. Best of luck.

Thanks mate, much appreciated. The President has stepped in, Rick (as per above) and it seems as though my emails and complaining have be watched by someone above because all of a sudden there seems to be some urgency at GV for ME, little old me. Just a pity I had to pee off a cliff to get their attention, they should have been like this some 12 months earlier.  :-\ Still, the system is rubbish....all I want is either my money back or for some miracle to happen and the whole set up function 100% properly, 100% even allowing me to split gears like I initially wanted and how it should work. We've come so far yet we're still in our own property.

:violin: Ah well, I can't do much except bite the bullet, move on and warn others.

As I said, you have been a marvel of patience and that should be worth it's weight in gold to GV. Most guys would have flown to the US and showed up at the company offices. I still think they make a great product as long as it's used within it's accepted limits. But that's the $2500 GV unit, not the $10,000.00 unit.

Its looking more and more like a Keisler AT to 5 sp MT conversion for me.  Sorry things didn't work out and I hope GV makes it right.  Not only should they buy back the system but they should compensate you for the research and time to try to improve their product.

Geez NZ, I have been following this thread FOREVER and can't believe you are still having problems.  I hope you get your money back from them.  They should refund you and let you keep the crappy unit.  If I can do anything to help, like make phone calls or anything, let me know.

Thanks April, very kind but I couldn't ask anyone do to anything for me. I really doubt I will see a single cent back from them. I'll keep you guys posted as to how it finally pans out. At this point he (Rick, owner of GVs) is talking to my main mechanic going through everything from the start. "Apparently" Rick asked us what parts we are using, I told Adam that the majority of our parts were from Year One. Rick said funny that because the Year One power tour car has the same kind or problems. We NOW think it's because the stock YO products can't handle the GVs "needs" so it's mucking everything up as they are being stretched to their limits, the distributor being the main cause we think.  In a stock car like Lucy the distributor etc are fine but the GV system may need more output power so aftermarket dizzy's etc will be to be purchased.

This is the most promising news I've heard in months and months. Rick said he will write down everything they use and replace in the Year One built power tour car and get it running, then advise us what we need to change! I'm happier but still crap service and poor product, but, it may work in the end, just kicked and screamed to get it to work. It is very promising, however, I've had news like this before and of course it was a let down so fingers crossed and see how we go. Good news with the YO car over there is they now have a car to work on, basically like having mine - there.

Cheers,
Carl

Carl,
A common problem we have running Fuel injection computers with Mopars is that the tach signal (negative coil) isn't a good input for switching the logic in the computers.   The Fix?  We run the same distro pickup and run it into an MSD 6AL ignition box.  The side of this box has a tach output lead that puts out a very good signal.  MAke sure that you watch the polarity of the 2 wires out of the pickup.  Reversing the black and orange pickup wires also screws up the timing so make sure that the orange wire is "+". Have your guy check that out.   I remember that you said the GV needs a tach signal a few pages back.

Thanks Rob good info, Adam my mechanic is good so he'll know what to do, I think it was more a matter of finding out as, like most people, we thought like they advertised the GVs was suppose to work on any car. So, we basically went through everything, twice, did all  the readings, did all the checks, gave them some new shift settings and voltage? readings, even got a replacement module. Basically, we purchased a product that didn't advertise we needed these items. Hopefully, this will fix it completely but I have many doubts as we've done that much mucking around.......

All I can do is see what happens. Cheers Rob, I'm having a cooling beer (Friday 2:25pm).  :bananasmi

What was found out early on, was that even though the early Mopar electronic ECU is very good at converting the distributor's signal for ignition, the tach signal was a little different when compared to Gm's or Ford's signal. A fix was to use a common GM 4 pin module out of the large cap HEI disttro hooked to the Chrysler pickup. Other user's went to the MSD for the multiple spark advantage.

Here is a link on how to wire it up for testing: http://duster318.freeservers.com/tech/hei.html

The GM module is the cheapest fix, by mounting the module with die-electric grease to the bottom of the distributor housing. This hides the part from view. That way an MSD box isn't mounted to your firewall. (doesn't look stock)

Good Luck,
Rob

We'll just see what Rick says to use so we stay "correct" and they have no excuses. Thanks for your help, we'll be fine we just hope that this is the problem if not, nothing else is there, we've tested it all.

As I said, just a waiting game and my mechanic and GVs tech will talk it over.

Hi Carl

I have just stumbled across your GV thread following a Google search. I live in England and have a new GV unit waiting in its box to be fitted to my Jensen Interceptor (Mopar 440/727). My GV unit was supplied some time ago (2yrs+) with the standard or original style GV control.

In the mean time the GEAR VENDOR AUTOSHIFT SEQUENCER came out and sounded great until I read your thread! Thanks for the heads up !!

I have a suggestion, but if I may first paraphrase/clarify some of your points in your past posts:

“So far we have it at about 85%.” ~ “The last module GV sent over using Adams specs was a MAJOR improvement and cleaned up our shift points beautifully” ~ “Now, we have one main problem left to fix” ~ “Adam says it's a switch or control that is suppose to basically say to the module: "OK, we're in OD....stay IN" but it's getting a message saying: "OK we're in OD hold off for a little while then turn off"

When built, the new controller “will run off the rpm signal like it does now, however, the final OD (3rd-Over) will run off mph and they are talking about actually making the OD come on Automatically at a given mph (I'm guessing around 45-50mph) so this is great news. So, in the mean I have to manually turn OD on/off” ~ “All they need to do is have the system read to cut out under 20mph in final gear, that's it, simple. Once the car hits 19.99mph the OD drops out. At present it drops out at any speed, any time”.

OK so here is my suggestion …………….. Why not use a “B&M Converter Lock-Up Control” to control the on and off of the GV Overdrive. Its just a switch that you pre set at whatever speeds you choose. Could this but the final part of your “jigsaw” puzzle?

For info see: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_748070_-1_10733

Hope you don’t think my idea daft

Regards

PS what do you think about the Keisler 4 speed auto ……….. Any Pro’s/Con’s ?

But the GV kit comes with a speed sensor like that anyway doesn't it?

I just use my GV unit in manual mode. It is so much easier. That was what it was designed to do back in the day when it was used on many British production cars (with a simple on-off button).

Part of GVs problem is that all they really do is supply parts. The overdive units themselves are made in Britain. Where they are much cheaper. GV have the adaptor tailshafts cast for them. They may even source out the electronics?

All I can see GV doing is collecting all the parts together from various sources in order to make these overdrive units fit American cars.

Yes the GV kit comes with a Speed Sensor but not one that you can set as a pre set speed switch ............ Maybe thats a big difference?

Made in Britian ........... now that is news - By who ?
