Updates with the Barracuda/Duster
« on: July 29, 2006 - 02:07:57 PM »
The 'ol Fishes' new mill will be arriving next Friday.   :grinyes: As for now it's just a short block. But atleast it's a good starting point for me. For $600 I'm buying a MP 10:1 360 shortblock. Has 2-3,000miles on it, .020 from Mopar, .509 cam, pan, balancer, flexplate. and comes with a spare small block 904. So price is lookin pretty good. The motor ran to where it was parked, had a little oil on the plugs and was taken apart, but the issue was never pursued due to the owner was going big block anyway. So it will get torn down, hopefully new rings should take care of that, new bearings, nothing but arp bolts, windage tray, etc, etc.

I will have to check things out, but as for now it looks like about 11:1 compression with some Edelbrock heads. The build will be similar to this one, couple differences in it, but basically that. It will have a higher compression, mechanical water pump, and 3.91s. My car weighed in at 3400lbs without me i dont weight too much lol, so if i can get it dialed in...it should run very well  :grinyes:

"Crate short block 9.5to1 mopar
out of the box Eddy's
.555/.575 solid .245/.254 dur @ .050
750 mighty demon
electric water pump
904 3800 stall
4.30 gear's 28" tire
and that's about it
1974 360 cuda 11.565 with 1.532 60ft's @ 114.46 - 3460lb car with driver"

While the motor and transmissions are being swapped I'd like. key word is like. to respray the bay and such. I'll have to take a look at my financial status at the time. It needs to be resprayed and theres no better time than when the motor is out. I would like to weld up all the holes as well. The motor will get a fully painted/pie pan/stock look to it.  :dogpile:

As far as what will I drive while my daily driver is down? The deal fell apart with my Duster, so it looks like I will be driving it cross country to where I am moving and will be my daily commuter. Currently a stock 1bbl slant six/904/7 1/4". Floorshift/buckets/flipdown back seat. The transmission, front suspension and brakes are currently out for some fixing/rebuilding.

The Duster should be a nice car to putt around with it. Maybe just a cheapo Macco paint job to get it all one color. Will also be a nice home for my 318/904 if i so choose.   :stirpot: :naughty: :grinyes:
It's hard to argue with a bone-stock, turn key car that will go anywhere with no fuss and sip on gas. So we'll see on that.

Sounds like a great plan Goody!  It must be hard to do all this resto stuff when the car you're working on is your daily driver!  The duster will be fun to scoot around in. :grinyes:

Your tellin me! I've gone through one set of a motor rebuilt/bugs being worked out session while i needed to have it on the road. Hurrying is definately no way to put something together. It will be a very nice change to have something else to drive while i get things done on the Barracuda. :naughty:

the Duster project looks fun.  what year is that- looks very familiar.   Maaco is faster than doing it yourself.

Cool Goody!!!  That'll be neat to be in the 11's with that 360!!  I was at a car show today and talked with a guy who runs a '73 Duster 340 (sounded nice!) who's pushing around 11.35 in the quarter.  I can't wait to assemble my 340 as he's running pretty much the same setup that I plan on doing, so hopefully my Chally will be in the mid 11's as I expect it to be. :grinyes:  Keep us up-to-date with your engine upgrade! :2thumbs:
